I seem to be constantly growing it out. When it's long it's shiny and healthy but v. thick. I quite enjoy having it short but miss having it longer. I HATE going to the hairdresser which I think is half the reason I keep trying to grow it. I want something casual and hassle-free. I'm so fed up with the in-between stage!

go for the posh spice cut, bobbed but long at the front and cut into neck at the back, think it looks stunning and if i could loose 1 stone in weight i would have it myself

Molesworth · 03/09/2006 15:59

I hate going to the hairdressers too, and also have very thick hair. I can't wear it down atm because it just looks like a big bush. There should be a chain of hairdressing salons for hairdresser phobics

TooTicky · 03/09/2006 16:04

One with "people who cut hair" as opposed to "stylists". No animal-tested products on display. No big windows.

Oh come on! All these thousands of women out there and no more opinions on my hair dilemma? I am sitting here looking crap and nobody cares!

I am a hairdresser, do you still have a phobia of them?

dinny · 03/09/2006 22:04

have you got GHDs, Tooticky? I got my hair cut into choppy bo thing at dd's kids' hairdressers (it's really thick, but they cut dd's so well I thought they must 'know my kind of unruly hair!), it cost £12 and it looks amazing now I have GHDs (she says modestly!)

best £90 I ever spent!

foxinsocks · 03/09/2006 22:06

I wish they did barber shop type places for women - dh has it so easy - he strolls up, waits for a slot and he's out in 5 minutes. That's the sort of place I would like. No booking, you turn up when you feel like it, they spray your hair, chop a bit off and let you out again!

I don't know what to suggest for your hair - have you thought of getting someone who comes to the house to cut your hair?

dinny · 03/09/2006 22:11

Foxinsocks - that's like going to kiddies hairdresser - dry cut, lol

Molesworth · 03/09/2006 22:15

I would suggest having a choppy layered style and get the hairdresser to drastically thin your hair. I had mine done like this and it looked great and grew out "gracefully".

southeastastra · 03/09/2006 22:17

get highlights!

TooTicky · 03/09/2006 22:17

What are GHDs? Giant hairy daughters? Great hair days?
Yes I suppose I am a bit phobic.
I couldn't have a hairdresser coming here, the house is too untidy - they'd be judging my housekeeping skills as well as my hair.

GUFFAW! That's exactly why I don't have a hairdresser come to my house too!

foxinsocks · 03/09/2006 22:19

I would love that dinny. Can't stand all this head massaging bollocks and I can wash my hair perfectly well myself!

Tooticky, you just need one room tidy - they don't have to see the rest of the house.

dinny · 03/09/2006 22:19

Good Hair Days (amazingly brilliant hair straighteners that all the slebs use). they transform thick frizzy hair into beautiful sleek tresses - seriously. believethehype!

Molesworth · 03/09/2006 22:21

I can confirm that GHDs are a bloody good investment if you have thick unruly hair. But poker straight hair is not a good look any more! You can use them to curl your hair too though

Familytree · 03/09/2006 22:23

Don't get GHD's I got some Charles Worthington ones (recommended by my hairdresser) they have such a wide plate that it takes a quater of the time to do my thick tresses. Best thing is they only cost me about £18!!!! (they are ceramic ones BTW)

TooTicky · 03/09/2006 22:24

Ah, my hair isn't frizzy, just thick. I was trying to grow it long enough to plait a while back but it kept getting thicker, and I thought by the time it was long enough any plait would be about 4 inches thick. So I had it cut v. short but still crave the plaityness.
foxinsocks, I'm not sure I could manage one whole tidy room. Anyway you can see straight through to the kitchen from the front room.
