Marriage 2nd time around - what to wear?

jalapenobusiness · 03/06/2014 10:53

Hovered over Relationships but perhaps think this is better suited to this topic.

I got married a few years ago and it was a huge mistake. Think I was probably panicking at the notion of not ever getting married and wanted a wedding rather than a marriage. Did the huge cringeworthy (looking back) wedding. Hundreds of guests. Massive white dress. Expensive photographer. It lasted barely 7 months.

Years on and I'm finally happy. My partner and I who I've known for a decade have a lovely baby and we want to get married - this time for the right reasons.

I will only invite my / his parents and best friend. I'm 32. I'm wondering - what do I wear? Can I wear white or would you not? If not what colour? And what sort of style? I've no idea how to do it so that I have a bit more taste / tact / class this time.

Thank you! Grin

I always thought Temperly London dresses were gorgeous, the mid length ones, for a second time round.

Wear whatever you like in terms of colour. I hate this old fashioned rule about you should only wear white for first weddings - The tradition came from the bride being a virgin which is clearly not the case for many weddings these days anyway!

Could you give us an idea of your shape and budget - That will make a difference.

If I got married again I'd wear something a bit pared back like these:

Prettiness

More prettiness

I always find Ghost dresses beautiful. This one is gorgeous but probably only for the very slim!

I wore this from Monsoon.

I'm a 14 pear shape. My aim is to be a 12 before I get married. I was worried about wearing white cause it was the second time around.

I wore this to my 2nd wedding. We had a very cool london registry office wedding with reception at our friends gorgeous gastro pub in belgravia. It was everything my first wedding wasn't ( big country do).

Second time around do what you want...

I'll try and get a pick of my shoes ;)

CMOTDibbler · 03/06/2014 16:12

If I was getting married again, I'd spend the money on a spanking outfit that was above my normal budget, and would get worn again for sure so each time I wore it I'd smile about the wedding.

In my case, I think I'd get something from Issy Miyake as I love the pleated stuff but would never spend that much, and some gorgeous shoes

Karbea - that's perfect! I love it!

jalapenobusiness · 03/06/2014 17:33

I don't know what the towel look is?

Karbea - I need that dress!

If you are only have parents and one friend there, I wouldn't wear anything weddingy.

Pick a colour you like and wear a lovely dress you can wear again.

Something online these lines here.

And these were my shoes. The whole wedding was sort of designed around them ;)

TroyMcClure · 03/06/2014 20:09

NO TO THE TOWEL dress if you are a size 14.
and the stripper shoes

Sorry

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/06/2014 20:32

Buy a dress by a designer you love, that you can dig out every year forever. Personally, I'd go with a Westwood. No to white.

LynetteScavo · 03/06/2014 21:55

A towel dress is a dress which looks like you've just jumped out of the bath and wrapped a towel around you.

From a distance.

Without glasses.

And sometimes close up

minibmw2010 · 04/06/2014 07:16

Coast do a beautiful dress called Jocasta which comes in a Champagne colour. You might have to search some to find it but I've always thought it would be perfect for a 2nd wedding.

Jocasta

TroyMcClure · 04/06/2014 07:30

your link is bust

this is pretty ( if you want white) www.coast-stores.com/fcp-product/2224796765

TroyMcClure · 04/06/2014 07:30

ha! its pink

WildBill · 04/06/2014 07:42

I have the Coast Jocasta in Black and it is a very flattering dress. It looks satin in the above link by minibmw2010 but it's not quite so shiny in real life - more sateen (I think is the phrase).

It's quite structured. In the right colour it would be posh enough for a second wedding.
Monsoon have some nice wedding options too.

auldspinster · 04/06/2014 13:32

My friend got married for the second time in a gorgeous champagne coloured knee length dress from Coast.
