Business Casual at a conference

I'm going to be attending a conference in the US in the next month and the dress code is business casual . Now I'm thinking that I can probably wear what I normally do for work which is smartish dresses with heels .However I'm not sure this will be OTT ?? What would you interpret business casual as ? I'm thinking layers due to the air con being fierce .

I'm going to one next week, which I have been to before. It's more chinos or linen trousers with smart tops, anything slightly above jeans reallyGrin

Chinos did cross my mind . I might have a look at the gap ones.

I tend to wear dresses (e.g shifts with boots in winter or wrap styles with wedges in summer) to these kind of conferences. I might also wear cigarette trousers with nice tops.

Men would wear chinos and open necked shirts.

Business casual is smarter in the US than in the UK. I'd go with smartish dresses and heels. You can get away with chinos and a shirt if you are male, but not of you are female.

Agree, business casual is smarter in the US and women tend to be well groomed and accessorised (definitely at a senior level) so dress sounds good

Thanks folks for the advice . I will take my normal dresses then which simplifies things .
