Linen trousers and a fabulous summery longish top?

Garden party attire - I am sure it can be more casual than usual wedding gear partly because as you say footwear will need to be fairly sensible.

What festival, or is that just the theme? Festivals are about as far away from convention and formality as you can get, so forget normal wedding guest dress rules. The weather will probably dictate what you end up wearing so perhaps think layers, comfortable fabrics and don't spend a fortune as it may end up covered in mud. Festivals are colourful. Maybe a midi length jersey dress you could wear with jewelled flip flops in heat or leggings and wellies in the rain (no-one will mind leggings trust me). A bright cardigan, scarf, jacket for the evening when it chills off. And a pac-a-mac in your handbag!
Steer clear of normal wedding dress fabrics like chiffon, crepe. Linen will only look nice if it's really sunny, if it rains you'll be wet, crumpled and cold.
Personally, I'd go a bit boho but I like that style anyway. Beaded necklaces rather that costume jewellery, flowers in your hair if you're brave but NO fascinators or hats!
Hope that helps, sounds fun!

insect repellent!

Festival theme :) I'm looking forward to it. Invite said to bring wellies there will be music after ceremony until the early hours. I don't have invite to hand but said ladies avoid heels, festival glamour. I have never been to a festival Blush

I'd wear a pretty summery dress, maybe with a biggish or floaty skirt, but something that coordinates with your wellies in case it rains!

My cousin had a wedding like this. Wore a maxi dress and flip flops and got bitten by bugs and stung by nettles. My cousin's mother ignored the dress code and wore a glam fitted satin shift and heels.

I mean something like one of these - they are slightly casual but bright and cheerful, and I reckon they would still look very nice with ballet flats if it isn't raining, or wellies if it is

Or this

Though a colour might be better in case it is a bit dirty!

I had a similar wedding last year. I wore a strapless maxi dress with a floral pattern on it with flat sandals. I also had wellies with me and changed into them when it started spitting a bit.
Most people were wearing similar, still quite dressy and glam but just sensible shoes

ThatBloodyWoman · 01/06/2014 20:43

You can do the full pretty cotton hippy dress thing, with a nice headband or flowers.

It'll be lovely!

It'll be fun (smile), if the hosts are into festivals, or want that theme, then the emphasis will be on fun and partying. I've been to lots of festivals and the dress code is always that there is no dress code! Basically though it's just an outdoor party, like I said before, the weather will be key. Even if it's sunny, it will get cool in the evening, you'll be eating and drinking all day so nothing too tight, probably standing up a lot so comfortable shoes, and there will probably be a fire at night, with a BBQ, so you'll end up smelling of smoke. Take a big bag with you for sun creams, sunglasses, layers and those wellies if you can't nip back to the car. Maybe a whicker basket type bag, perhaps take a picnic blanket so you can sit down if all the hay bales are taken!
As I said, I'd think boho style. Maybe google some festivals, posh ones like coachella or " ibiza festival nighttime" or something, otherwise you'll end up with a load of images of teenagers in Glastonbury rolling around in mud!

Love the flamingo dress!

Thank you Smile they are festival goers I think. Friends of hubby's but I know them fairly well. We have a hotel room booked rather than camping at the venue so will have to take a big bag for my wellies lolGrin

I think I'm off to get that flamingo dress myself!

frogmore6 · 01/06/2014 21:39

Boho.

bouquetofpencils · 01/06/2014 22:03

You can get hunter wellies in all colours and different styles to go with your outfit. I got gold ones for my own wedding in case it snowed (it didn't).
