bananaloaf · 02/09/2006 18:08

i had long sleeves and was married 4 years ago. bridesmaid all have long sleeves.all of us were into our 30s and didnt feel that our bodies were suitable for too muck exposure.

starshaker · 02/09/2006 18:08

im going for strapless cos it suits me better. my sister in law had straps and dps sis had straps

Sunnysideup · 02/09/2006 18:24

wow - you've written my post ocd!!!!! my thoughts EXACTLY. Been noticing this lately as a friend is wedding dress shopping, and almost all are strapless, it's totally bizarre!

I think strapless suits almost nobody personally, you've got to be so trim in the shoulder/arm area. A friend recently got married in a strapless dress but wore a satiny, thick wrap down the aisle, tbh looked like she was draped in a tablecloth

I think if you are going to go strapless, GO strapless...if you want something on your arms get a dress with sleeves!

rant over.

Sunnysideup · 02/09/2006 18:26

is it done cos it's a hell of a lot easier to cut/sew a dress without sleeves? And the wedding dress companies can still charge hundreds of quid for less work?!

ocd · 02/09/2006 18:27

i dont mind it
if you are slender enough
but big fat biffas liek me woudl look dire
i liek starrys but yes they are all strappy.
mine was kind of on the hsoulder little sleevelets (!)

7 years ago mine had straps (inch wide like 'vest' straps).

I prefer straps or short sleeves to sleeveless myself although some people do look very nice in them. To me they are more like an evening dress than a wedding dress.

Maybe I'm just an old fart.

Sunnysideup · 02/09/2006 18:29

It's just become such a fashion that there seems so little choice of other styles really. It's a shame.

I've never been a fan of strapless dresses anyway tho, maybe that is cos I too am as ocd so charmingly puts it a big fat biffa!

Smurfgirl · 02/09/2006 18:47

I like the little sleevlet ones.

I have thought this myself tbh have large boobs and will be size 14 when I get married so think slinky strapless is not for me!! Oooh I can't WAIT to wedding dress shop.

ocd · 02/09/2006 18:49

I need structure cos of fatness, don't suit slinky at all. Hmm. Can't look for ages yet though!

nice front, don't like the back

Joolstoo · 02/09/2006 18:55

(with sleeves)

Gobbledigook · 02/09/2006 19:07

Sunnysideup · 04/09/2006 18:29

have to resurrect this thread simply to say with the strapless dresses, has anyone noticed how high up they come when people sit down in them? my friend has a wedding mag and one of the 'real' weddings pictured has the girl sitting down with her strapless bodice up by her neck! wtf?

I had sleeves on my dress.

I was a size 8 with 34DD boobs.

Piffle · 04/09/2006 18:42

it would be a feat of engineering for me to go strapless... unless is started at my waist.
My boobs do not submit to strapless under any circs...

Philomena · 04/09/2006 19:21

I have huge norks but had a strapless bra under my strapless dress. Did worry that there wouldn't be enough support but TBH there was so much support in the corset bit I could have gone braless...

MrsBadger · 05/09/2006 09:01

how rare - have just come back from being a bridesmaid at my best mate's wedding and had the same strapless conversation with someone there.
Have to say strapless suited the bride but there were some scandalised looks from elderly relatives when she walked in with her shoulders covered only by six feet of veil.

My wedding dress had sleeves but was off-the-shoulder, in a kind of elegant 50s Audrey Hepburn manner... [wistful sigh]

schneebly · 05/09/2006 09:08

I got married in this dress and the price has gone up since then! [cheapo emoticon] I am a bit of a fatty but it didn't look too bad IMO!
