I am going to a ball in June. It is quite an important event so I would like to look amazing but don't usually go to posh events so am a bit stuck! I am in my twenties, size 10 and would like something quite sophisticated... either cocktail or full length... Budget of around £100. I suit most colours but not keen on yellow/orange. Please help, wise women of Mumsnet!

LBD, over budget but a bargain
full length and lovely, black agin though
pale pink. not sure about the beading
black again, sorry

MrsLettuce · 01/06/2014 00:29

maybe?

Nocomet · 01/06/2014 00:37

I love this

Debenhams have lots of possibilities.

Ignore their tendency to style everything as a bridesmaids dress, clearly a sparkly necklace, the right shoes and a clutch bag can give a totally different vibe.

FauxFox · 01/06/2014 13:42

pale pink
mint
bright pink
navy

tethersend · 01/06/2014 15:25

Nocomet · 01/06/2014 16:51

Tethers, not black it looks like you're broke and recycling your Christmas party, safe works events dress (delete according to your age and amount of flesh shown by black dress).

jimmybim · 01/06/2014 17:07

Exactly the same as fauxfox's mint one but inva va voom red!
Also a lovely blue

tethersend · 01/06/2014 17:20

Would never, ever associate a black dress with a Christmas party Confused

Are your Christmas parties very funereal? Grin

tethersend · 01/06/2014 17:22

Blue, just for NoComet

tethersend · 01/06/2014 17:22

Nocomet · 01/06/2014 18:25

Tethers, that is lovely and exactly my colour, however, it's the OP who needs a dress Grin.

No just student things, where people had very limited budgets and black or black and purple was very common.

Quite accidentally DD choose herself a navy prom dress that would work just as well in the middle of winter.

When my DF used to organise a charity summer ball, the dresses tended to be wine red or lighter.
