Not sure if the posh shop girls deal with stuff like this, but I have a circulatory illness and get really stupidly cold and have been told to keep warm!! What stylish warm alternatives to jogging pants/fleece combo( I can hear cod fainting at the use of the word fleece in the shop!!!) FOR ROUND THE HOUSE WEAR ONLY can you advise? I still want to look chic if people call in but need to be WARM. am size 10 .
Pretty please

Sorry to hear about your illness robin. If I was you I would just wear thermal underwear underneath your ordinary clothes. You can get quite pretty and comfortable types these days and they are very effective. Dp used to be a car salesman (standing on garage forecourt in freezing cold NE winters) and swears by thermals.

Lots of layers such as tights, boots, vest, cardi, etc will also help you keep warm IMO. Corduroy, wool and velvet are wonderfully warm and nicer than fleece.

Have thermals already, and yes they are great but wearing them all the time isn't ideal as I get hot and cold really quickly so a top I can take off is best! It's something I have had for years but like to have something cosy to wear that doesn't look too frumpy!

Oh, you poor thing. I get horribly cold in winter but not as bad as you, I reckon.

If you need to take a top layer off, how about a slightly thicker underlay, if you see what I mean, with a standard fine knit (merino or cashmere or whatever - Tesco does v cheap cashmere) on top? I swear by the Jigsaw long sleeved silk knit tops, myself; they're pricey, sadly, but they make a fabulously warm layer. When it's really cold I wear a strappy silk vest underneath.

Also don't forget your feet. Celtic Sheepskin does great slippers or 'house boots' again not cheaply but rather fabulously.

Hmm.. lots of nice ideas. Many thnaks to posh shop girls for not sneering at my request! I have hung my nose over the Boden stuff, but handwash is not my first choice. I will go to Tesco and check out the cashmere. As this is a medical necessity I am not going to penny pinch overly!!
I am with the codmother on the coldness of jeans.
Are the chic (?!) people still hanging about in juicy couture or is that terribly passe MT?

noddyholder · 02/09/2006 22:43

cashmere socks are great and seem to help all of you stay warm not just your feetHTH

hermykne · 02/09/2006 22:51

robin - this is where my brain isnt working, i work in a shop part itme / occasionally , run by my friend , (u dont need that info i know !) , anyway they sell these quilted socks just for that problem of cold feet, i will get the name or if it comes back to me i'll post it for u, they'd be better than cashmere. its actually a childrens interior shop and the bootees come in kids sizes for the pram but they go up to adult sizes . omg its driving me nuts the name has escaped me ,i'll be back tomorrow...

QueenPeaHead · 02/09/2006 22:53

ps Costco do very good cheap cashmere. Not at all bad.

robinpud · 03/09/2006 11:09

hemrkyne.. that's really kind but the problem is actually rarely my feet, it's my core temp and my hands. So if we met I would be the one wearing 2 layers more than anyone else and still with purple fingers! Glamorous!!
