What are people wearing to work these days?

I'm back at work on Monday after 11 months mat leave, in a new job. I need some tips on what's stylish these days! I'm size 12 up top, 14 bottom, 5ft 9 with some post-baby tunmyage left over. I'm a teacher so also need no cleavage etc.
Any advice much appreciated!

Just seen the workwear thread but it's a bit advanced for me - I'm clueless!

in this weather:

slim cropped trousers and rolled up chinos in a variety of colours

plain white or black tops in a variety of fabrics - I recently got one from m+s which was crochet-lace panel at the top to just above cleavage and the rest was two layers of off whit crepe. it is excellent.

on feet: loafers, perforated ballet slippers, platform sandals and nude almond toe heels

i look chic as shit. it took me a while to work out what suits me though, and this is it. i am frequently complimented on my clothes at work

what kinds of things did you wear before?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/05/2014 16:20

Teacher here too. I tend to wear pencil skirts and cropped jackets or tube skirts and blazers, or cigarette trousers and a jacket of some sort. Heels pretty much always, or ballet shoes occasionally.

i am also a teacher

Snap (except I'm 5'4) I went to m & and bout some round neck 3/4 length sleeve tops, they look good and wash well. They are cheap so don't matter if I get covered in paint (I'm r yr ). Also got some tailored trousers from them too.

Oops meant m and s !

Thanks all, great advice. Used to wear shift dresses, slim leg trousers, pencil skirts - then increasingly tent-like items through pregnancy. My wardrobe is looking a bit dated now though. Never quite got on board with blazers, chinos or other fashionable things but like the look of them. Struggling a bit with shops for my age - now 36.
What's a cigarette trouser? (See, clueless).

Also any good tips on where to find slim fit/chino style trousers to fit the post-baby tum?

cigarette trouser - slim cut but straight through the leg, can be a slight crop i.e. 7/8

par example

MsFiremanSam · 30/05/2014 17:27

Thanks Chibi, like the look of those.
