boys trousers to fit over AFOs/splints?

DS (aged 9) had new AFOs fitted yesterday. He had to roll his jeans up to his knees to put them on, but then couldn't roll them down over the AFOs because they were too narrow!
We have been through his wardrobe today to look for suitable trousers and only have one pair of jeans (by noname) that will roll over them (after a little bit of huffing, puffing and silent swearing).
Now, I know his school trousers will be OK but he won't want them at the weekend and he absolutely will not wear jogging pants.
We went to a few shops today to look for trousers with legs at least as wide as his one suitable pair of jeans but to no avail.
Any suggestions? Or will we need to wait for the skinny leg fashion to die a death?!

I don't know what age they go up to, but Frugi are a clothing brand that are cut for cloth nappies so are very generously sized. Obviously you need a much bigger age but they are very broadly cut IYSWIM? Might just have that extra material needed.

Ah, yes, thank you. They had cargo pants that I hadn't thought about, which I'll look up.

My kids have had boden trousers which are sensibly wide in the leg IYKWIM. I think they were cargo style ones as well. Gap quite often have jeans that are normal straight legged ones rather than skinny. I have one son who is quite chunky in the leg department and it is a struggle getting trousers that aren't skinny fit atm.

Its hit or miss but I often pick up some in tk maxx with wide legs (for the same reason)

Thanks for the suggestions

How wide do the bottoms need to be?

We've got some quite wide cargo trousers from gap and some wider than skinny Boden ones (in the same they're not extortionate). Lands End ones also look quite wide on friends dc but I don't have first hand experience of these.

Boden baggies.
What about shorts as it is summer? (well not here but...)
