Cream dress, black tights.

Help please- I have bought a cream lace dress for a wedding I'm going to on Saturday. It's not traditional lace, it's more structured, almost crochet like if that makes sense. It's a fitted shift dress shape. I would like to wear black opaques with it- I've always liked cream/white dresses with black tights. Like the contrast. I also got some really sheer skintone tights too. Tried both on just now- and not sure which look to go for. Advice most welcome- do others like the cream dress black tights look or am I mad? Other thing to say is that I only have one hat and it's black and I love to so want to wear it.

I wouldn't go for black tights. I'm the World's biggest fan of black tights but I'm just not sure it's quite right with a dress that colour.

I love the cream dress/black tights combo and I do wear it occasionally. The hat might be overkill though and look like you're trying to top &tail the cream.

MaccaPaccaMac · 29/05/2014 18:56

Hmmm yeah, see what you mean McFox. Been looking on Pinterest for inspiration and people are saying that they like the black tights look. I might kiss goodbye to the hat then and wear a jeweled comb in my hair or something.

I don't know whether I'm too colour-happy, but I'd probs wear purple/ blue tights with a cream dress. Disclaimer: I am not classy!

MaccaPaccaMac · 29/05/2014 20:18

I considered coloured tights as well- maybe a bottle green? I'm wearing really dark matte silver high shoes. I loves them.

Ooh, bottle green would look really nice. Deffo think you should go with that.

Bluetubchairs · 29/05/2014 21:49

Wow, never thought cream dress black tights combo could work but googling it, there are some really nice and wearable examples. I like it!

McFox · 29/05/2014 23:33

Bottle green tights, silver shoes and a but if diamanté bling in your hair would look fab Smile

MaccaPaccaMac · 30/05/2014 06:35

Thanks guys. Think I'm going to get some bottle green tights today and try it out- if not I can go with black.

Try grey tights- they can work really well with cream dresses. Also plum.

tethersend · 30/05/2014 07:54

Grey tights

Cream dress, black tights.

Thanks. I have been in to town and bought jade green and dark grey opaque tights so will try on tonight and decide- I'm tending towards the green at the moment but LOVE the grey, will be able to wear them loads for work. I love a good bit of hosiery. Couldn't find any plum ones unfortunately. Will let you knew which ones I go for!

I would wear the cream with black tights and do a whole sixties look with huge beehive, smokey eye, winged eyeliner, nude lipe etc-but I am a lover of a vintage look.

MaccaPaccaMac · 30/05/2014 17:38

Yeah sounds great painteddevil. I can't do the bee hive as I have quite short hair- but it's quite 60s anyway really- chin length Bob with long blunt fringe. Still not decided....

You could beehive the crown of your hair and then put a lovely bow or slide in it?

tethersend · 30/05/2014 18:18

For an authentic 60s look, I'd pair the dress with cream or yellow tights...

MaccaPaccaMac · 30/05/2014 19:06

Right I've decided- black tights. The green ones look nice bit I think I like the black better. Not not wearing the hat though- have got a Matt silver jewelled comb for my hair. Thanks all - looking forward to it now. My dd is a bridesmaid- she's so excited. Got granny coming to pick the kids up at 6 so we can get pissed and dance like fools at the night do.

Sounds lovely, have fun :)

God not cream tights unless your legs are fab. Reminds me of Eastern European women who seemed to go in for white tights that looked awful on everyone (who is not a ballerina, she said quickly, in case a load of ballerinas get upset. Troupe of Ballerinas?

tethersend · 31/05/2014 22:18

Yy, need amazing legs to carry off an authentic 60s look.

Mine are terrible Grin
