Unplanned shopping in New York this afternoon...

While the dcs go up the Rock with Dh...I'm targeting J Crew - anything to look out for while I'm there?

What other US brands are worth investigating apart from the usual we have on UK high street...my stamina for shopping usually lasts no more than 3 hours on a good day...so I need to use my time wisely.

Any good shoe places?

Where in NYC are you? The Nordstrom Rack at Union Square is great- it's a bit like TK Maxx but much better. If you are looking far cheap basics for you and the kids, I'd look at old navy and Carters. I also quite like Ann Taylor Loft and got some great stuff in Kenneth Cole too.

We were there this time two years ago (sans DS's). Hoping to tag a trip on to the beginning of our summer hols next year as I will be 50 and DS1 18.

hmmmm been an age since I've been in NYC but my New Yorker friend always says to try Anthropologie (there's one next to the Rock) too.

Thanks for the tips so far. We're staying in Chelsea - done bits of shopping - converse for dd, lululemon for me. High line this morning then lunch at Gramercy tavern and shopping this afternoon. We've fallen a wee bit in love with New York, especially the food, good job we are walking a lot!

Today is NYC at it's finest. Beautiful spring day.

It was a beautiful day. I spent an hour in J Crew, staff were very helpful, even offered to get me a bottle of water! Bought a few bits. Anthropologie was a bit more tricky....tried loads on but no staff, no help and funny sizes meant I ran out of time and bought nothing!

Might squeeze in a few more shops tomorrow, while dh and the dcs aren't looking! And then it's back home.
