Are black and navy together a real no?

I bought a navy jacket the other day but got it home and realised that although it goes well with the jeans I was wearing at the time, many of the other things I'd want to wear it with are black. Am I going to look rubbish? I am a muppet and have lost the receipt so I can't take the jacket back.

I wear black and navy together happily, don't think it's a real no at all! (Source:my own epic sense of style...) Ha no, really, it's a combination that can look great!

Going against the grain here, but I avoid navy for this very reason.

To me it just looks wrong.

If it's true navy then definitely no, if just dark blue, not as dark as navy, then it's ok, in my view!

I think it depends. Black shoes with a navy suit looks a bit rubbish, as if you only have one pair of shoes, but if the two are combined in a thought-through way it can look lovely.

I'd say it was a dark midnight blue rather than a traditional navy so hopefully OK.

That's interesting Amethyst - I don't have any cause to wear suits but what colour shoes would you put with a navy one?

I love navy and black together, not black shoes with a navy outfit, but mixed within an outfit, I think it looks lovely.

Well just brought dd new uniform & her school says black or navy tights- if I go with navy great with uniform but funny with black school shoes & if black tights then look funny with navy skirt. But this is all my opinion .... So what to do?? I've never thought they go but lots people often carry off well

When I get concerned about a look, I usually Google it. "Navy jacket black" turns up a number of good looks. From the chic to the quirky.

I can't do it.

My work uniform is black trousers and a navy tunic... I now feel Parisian :)
