Taking a picture of a celeb's hair to the hairdressers - do people actually do this or will I look like a fool?

Just watched Fearne meets McBustes (for all your early 2000's boy band needs) and really like Fearne's long bob.

I need a hair cut and thought about taking a pic of her with me, but do people actually do this IRL or is it just something magazines tell you to do?

Can't find a recent picture of her hair now, but it seems v similar to what she had in 2011 (according to google images).

What do you think of it?

I have dark brown hair, and not planning to go lighter, if that makes any difference!

I have looked one up on my phone at the hairdressers and they have looked stuff up on their computer for me before too. If thats the style you like then take it along with you so they know what you are looking for

fingersonbuzzers · 22/05/2014 20:57

Thanks ilove, hadn't thought of having it on my phone - that seems a lot less try hard.

My mum is a hairdresser and she says she is happy for clients to bring in pix....it saves a lot of time describing a style.
I subsequently know many hairdressers and they don't think it is a problem.....go for it. Long bobs are fab, I have one like Ferne's.

wonderpants · 22/05/2014 21:27

Yep, last time I had a whole Pinterest folder of styles I liked on my tablet!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 22/05/2014 21:28

I did. It was Paris Hilton! Hate her, but lived her hair!

CarCiKoTab · 22/05/2014 21:28

I've done it and also a random girl on Google I found. How else you supposed to explain it?

MrsBungle · 22/05/2014 21:29

I do it all the time! and my hair dresser patiently explains that the styles I like are full of extensions

JoyceDivision · 22/05/2014 21:31

deffo, I have a pic of Rhianna in my purse that I use, plus a pic of anne hathaway growing out her crop that is nice.

burnishedsilver · 22/05/2014 21:32

I do it all the time because I'm terrible at describing what I want.

KikitheKitKat · 22/05/2014 21:42

Yep. I took a picture last time and (as usual) had the hairdresser saying "this lady, thick hair... you, thin hair". Thanks mate.

craftysewer · 23/05/2014 00:54

Surely it is better to take a pic in with you and then your hairdresser can see exactly what it is you want. Mine positively encouraged me to look through magazines if I wanted a new style.

MintChocAddict · 23/05/2014 01:03

I remember taking a picture of someone from a John Hughes film to the hairdresser in the late 80s. I wanted my hideous teenage perm to look like hers. It didn't.

Also used to take photos of random model types from magazines until I realised that it wasn't really about the hair - I actually just wanted to look like them. Given they were hairdressers and not magicians, that was never going to happen. Grin

VenusDeWillendorf · 23/05/2014 01:23

I always have a few styles on my phone to show the hairdresser.
Seems very common to show rather than tell, I think.

Love that Lob style btw.

JapaneseMargaret · 23/05/2014 06:35

Hard to know if they're just being lovely and polite, but I get the impression most hairdressers are happy for people to do this.

Pinterest is your friend. :)

mac12 · 23/05/2014 11:30

I did this with pic of Michelle Williams' short crop - the hairdresser said it was a big help but gave suggestions on how to adjust to suit my face/hair. Whenever I go in now (sadly only once, twice a year due to budget/time constraints), he always asks if I've brought any pics. I'm a bit rubbish at describing or even knowing what I want so find it really helps to have a pic for inspiration.

CoconutAmericano · 23/05/2014 11:41

Yes i did this last time i went to the hairdressers. I am useless at describing things so the picture really helped my hairdresser and i got what i wanted ( a sort of longer in the front wavy bob)

BumWad · 23/05/2014 11:45
