What decides what eyeshadow colour you wear?

Do you match your eyeshadow to your clothes? Is that the done thing?

VEry few eyeshadows suit me. I have big eyes and with almost all eye shadows it looks like I've been punched in the face.... I tend to choose pink or cream shimmery ones and definitely don't coordinate with clothes.

Hell no! Not since about 1987! Its a terrible look imo. I know one woman who does it all the time and it looks godawful.

Certain colours will enhance your eye colour and others will look less flattering. It's not a hard and fast rule though and depends on your hair and skin colour as well.

Neutrals (browns, taupes, rose gold, pinks) and metallics suit almost everyone and are far easier to wear than full on colour. The Urban Decay Naked palettes are great for these looks. A well applied neutral eye goes with any outfit.

For evening looks I use plum, navy or charcoal shadows to do a dramatic smokey eye.

I just flit between the shades in the Urban Decay Naked palletes 2 & 3. I only tend to wear shades of taupe, golds, rose golds and brown.
Lighter for day and a little darker for evening.

Oops looks like iebeen getting it wrong for a while! I only wear mke up on special occasions but do usually try and co ordinte it with what I'm wearing, I guess I should stop that then!

I'm planning on wearing a jumpsuit on holiday that's mainly black with pink plm tree pattern and has slight aqua green hint to it too, I'm accessorising with aqua green belt bag and shoes, so aqua shadow and liner
is out of the question then?

The aqua makeup will be too much. Purple or Navy might be good, or hot pink lippy with black liner and no other eyeshadow.

Here's an article from Bobbi Brown recommending eyeshadow colours that are flattering for different eye colours.

You really need to play around (Space NK good) to see what suits you.

My eyes are blue/grey but with bits of green in them and a cranberry colour really makes them pop. also silver suits me a lot.

I think it also depends very much on the shape of your eyes and eye area. My eyes are quite deep set - something I've only realised quite recently. Eyeshadow has never really suited me, despite my love of makeup, and I realise it's because of the deep set eyes, the definition and shadow is already there. If i do use something, it's just a wash of something light, or a highlighter, to brighten the area.
