What colour hat/fascinate to wear with this yellow dress?

I'm going to am event in a couple of weeks which requires a hat or maybe a fascinate. I've seen this dress which I love, but I'm not sure if any hat will go!!

Does anyone have any ideas of what colours would work?

Thanks!

That dress is really pretty but it's very casual - I don't think a weddingy hat or fascinator would really go. How about a sparkly comb in your hair? Or depending on the kind of event, a more floppy, casual hat?

Cute dress! I take it you mean a fascinator? What colour shoes are you wearing? I think navy would work well, or a gunmetal grey.

Just had a look on Pinterest and I think this green necklace looks nice against the yellow: www.pinterest.com/pin/146155950381641415/

Are you going for the bright yellow one?

fascinator may be a bit of a clash, as i agree, it is quite casual and beachy.

I disagree that's it's too casual. I think if you pair it with navy suede heels, a clutch and a fascinator, it would be fine for a wedding. I like the suggestion of a floppy hat.

I also disagree that it is too casual. I would go for a statement hat (ie big!) In navy or dark grey, matching shoes, and polished, neutral make-up.

I think reds & oranges might be good, though this may be because I really fancy a tequilla sunrise.

Thanks all! You've given me some inspiration to go out and look what's available. And yes I did mean to say fascinator (spell check changed it!)

Love the idea of navy as it might be easier to get shoes to match. I've actually already ordered it in ivory as that is a safer option, but I just love the yellow so much more! It looks a lot smarter in the flesh I think.

It's the Queen's garden party I'm going to, so not sure how dressy I should be really!

Thanks again

I noticed that one of the reviewers on the Boden site said they are wearing that dress to the Queen's garden party - maybe it was you!

FourForksAche · 22/05/2014 11:22

Have a fabulous day, I'm sure you'll look amazing.

FourForksAche · 22/05/2014 11:28

and ivory & navy sounds really nice.

Nocomet · 22/05/2014 11:29

If you google queen's garden party images. It does seem very much hats and some sort of jacket are the order of the day.

Navy, white/ivory could all work
A touch of yellow added to the hat/fascinator to tie it together perhaps.

It's not hard to add a few highlighting feathers. I've done it to a black fascinator to bring in the red and purple flowers on my dress.

EBay ideas?

Twotofive · 22/05/2014 14:19

Ooh thank you! I never even thought to look at eBay!

I'm not sure if you're going for the ivory or the yellow?

Purple is awesome with yellow. With such a bright yellow dress I think a softish purple, more lilac, would look best.

Hot pink and yellow are good together too.

With the ivory I'd go for hot pink shoes, or cocoa/tan ones for a 'quieter' look.
