Need a new face powder! 2nd time Guerlain have discontinued on me! >:(

For Xmas '12 I got a guerlain pressed face powder which was fab! Both illuminating AND mattifying).

Then whilst I was on maternity leave I wasn't wearing much make up at all and they went and discontinued the powder and I didn't notice until a few months ago! This is the 2nd time they've discontinued a powder that I loved! Sad

So meantime I'm using a bare minerals one just now but don't really like it as I feel it just makes my face look flat.

Would appreciate help finding a face powder that could replace my discontinued one & do the same job!

I'm watching with interest. Powder is SO important isn't it? I'm looking for exactly the same - illuminating AND mattifying. I've tried loads and they all seem to be one or the other.

Have you tried one of the BM radiance powders on top of your BM powder? I love the clear radiance for a bit of illumination on top of the matte BM powder.

Nars Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder
Bobbi Brown brightening finishing powder
Chantecaille loose powder

All are good the Nars being my fave. I do add a dusting of meteorites on top though for added glow.

Soap and Glory do an illuminating powder that performs magic. 'Glow All Out' £11 from Boots. A lovely invisible yet peachy glow, I think it might be supposed to be blusher or highlighter but I use it all over Smile

What about the Hourglass ambient lighting powder word on beauty blogger street is that it's divine...john Lewis just has it back in stock. I am dying to try it out!

Totally agree plasticbanana!

I've always heard good things about Nars & Chantecaille but I am very much one for 'trying before buying' particularly with foundations & powders - seeing as they aren't usually cheap so don't want any expensive mistakes! Unfortunately nowhere nearby does those brands: o( Also I do prefer pressed powder. Loose seems a bit of a faff especially when I have to be out the house by 6am for work everyday & my makeup routine is allocated less than 10mins! For that same reason I can't see myself putting on 2 powders seasalty50

Intrigued by this hourglass powder too...never heard of it so will look into that.

I have the Hourglass Ambient Light powder and to be perfectly honest I don't think it's all that, certainly doesn't stop my t-zone from getting shiny, it's been relegated to an auxiliary make up bag.

I'm currently using a Soap and Glory pressed 'blot' powder alternated with a Givenchy loose powder which has 4 separate colours - sounds weird but seems to work. I've yet to find the powder I would automatically re-purchase.

I bought the Bobbi Brown brightening finishing powder last week and I really like it.
I'd actually gone to the BB counter to look for a new blusher, and the sales assistant offered to try the one she was recommending on my face - so I had a mini make up session, and picked the blusher she'd suggested. She then recommended the powder, which I wasn't sure about, as I don't usually wear any, but I am a convert. It gives an almost airbrushed finish, and somehow just softens all your make up. It wasn't cheap at £40 but it will last for ages. Smile

I tried the Laura Mercier one recently. I have a few things of theirs. I had a horrendous reaction to it. Itchy skin (especially the hairline and around my nose/chin, oddly (?)) so, I took it back. The SA said "I can't see any reaction, I think you look fine". I was really upset and insisted on either a refund or at the least, for them to return it to LM. Whatever was in it, didn't agree with me.

On a plus note, I've used a Clinique one for years and have returned to their Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder. I brush a little on. It's not "flat" looking and doesn't itch!

I tried the Nars one the other day and it's lovely. They were great in store too (Liberty) and did my whole face wven though it was v busy.
