Can I wear shoes with a broken buckle to a wedding?

I am going to a wedding next Sat. Planning to wear a dress, tights and black heels. The only problem is the buckle on the left shoe is broken (the "pin" has come away) so it can not be done up.

Can I get away wearing these and should I lleave the other one loose too? Too poor to buy new pair

Could you afford to buy a new buckle? A good haberdashery department (like John Lewis for example) might sell a replacement?

Wineandchoccy · 19/05/2014 17:15

Can you mend the buckle or could a cobbler mend for you?

Could you use a safety pin or stitch it together?

lentilpot · 19/05/2014 17:29

Wear them and if anyone mentions it say it broke on the way there!

This happened to my bridesmaid on my wedding day. I sewed the shoe together on her foot and you couldn't tell and it stayed on that way all day and night. Quick snip when she got home and she was free.

What shoe size are you?

hpickup · 19/05/2014 17:36

Cobbler said they can't fix it as the leather is torn.

Wear it and, if anyone notices, pretend it broke on the day.

I you can bodge it together, that'll probably be comfier, especially if you think you'll be dancing.

Thanks - good advice. I was a bit worried about dancing in them but hopefully will be able to take them off at the reception.

I am in this mess as my ex, in a blaze of temper, destroyed all my clothes and shoes while i was in work

Oh, how awful.

Could anyone sew it on when it's on your foot? I was sewn into a dress for an important party once Blush no one noticed. And I have 'fixed' shoes on more than one occasion.

Could you then have different shoes for the reception? You'll be sitting down to eat, then dancing. I have seen lots of people changing their shoes for the dance-off.

If they're Mary Jane style shoes, could you just cut the straps off and use some glue or clear nail polish to prevent any fraying along the raw edge?

ShatnersBassoon · 20/05/2014 12:25

Pin or stitch it in place once you've got it on. Nobody will notice, and if it comes apart during the day say "It's just happened, what bad luck etc."

ejayne · 20/05/2014 15:45

If all else fails probably your best options is to cut the straps off.

hpickup · 22/05/2014 10:36

Thanks - have cut the straps off.

Does'nt look bril but will have to do
