What shop sells BOOTS for gals with big CALVES

Someone here gave me a link to a website but I was unhappy with their return policy ( you had to pay for returns) and I was wondering if anyone knows a good shop that sells a wide range of wide fitting boots.

I'd guess that would be Duo you weren't happy with - have you tried Evans? Their boots are also made for the larger calved lady (although not as wide as the ones from Duo).

Piffle · 30/08/2006 20:31

If you had to return a pair of Duo boots I'd be very surprised
I've the oppsoite problem too skinny calves, I did every shoe shop in central london including Selfridges (Prada et al)
Duo are fabulous the measurements worked perfectly, they fit beautifully and I have not ever had a moment of rubbing or pain wearing them
For the price I think they are excellent value for the end product

I had to return a pair - they were too long, and flapped around my knees in a most unbecoming way. It was a bit of a palaver. Mind you, they do roadshows where they have every size of boot, so you can try them on and order there and then, if that helps?

drosophila · 30/08/2006 20:34

Yes it was duo. I think my fear is that shoes are so hard to fit generally and I always try loads on before I buy but hey maybe that is the problem shoes in shops are not so tailored. Maybe ordering from a Co that uses more specific measurements is a good thing. I will rethink...

Jackino. Was it expensive to return?

Another vote for Evans. I bought a pair there last winter and they are fab - I can actually wear boots up to my knees! It's like a new lease of life and means I can buy skirts to wear with them that don't end at the ankle. And there are some quite trendy styles as well.

JackieNo · 30/08/2006 20:38

I think it was rather expensive, but I can't remember the actual amount, I'm afraid. I did ring them and they gave me good advice on which style would suit me, and the second pair are great, so if you're hesitating, maybe give them a ring before ordering. They also have a shop in Bath, if you're anywhere near there...

drosophila · 30/08/2006 20:40

Evans website only have ankel boots. Will they get more as winter approaches?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 30/08/2006 20:41

I'd guess so - had some nice ones last year, but even those didn't fit my enormous calves.

biglips · 30/08/2006 20:54

drosophila - what calf measurement are you?

mycatfatzak · 30/08/2006 20:56

Have you tried Vivaladiva.com? They sound like Duo though in that you have to pay to return. They do a good range of wide fittings and wide calf fittings.

magicfarawaytree · 30/08/2006 20:58

have you tried shoe tailor - I have not had to pay for any returns. You can do it at the post office or the courier collects. the do normal size and wide fitting shoes and have some boots specifically for the fuller calf.

catj · 30/08/2006 21:06

I've been to Brantano today and they have boots with wider fit.

loopylou0612 · 30/08/2006 21:09

I just bought some from plusinboots.co.uk

Skribble · 30/08/2006 21:13

I ended up with a pair from a cheapo shop on the high street, I was surpirised after trailing round loads of shops including M&S last winter. Just trial and error I found.

danceswithmonkeys · 30/08/2006 21:17

I think La Redoute have some boots in different calf widths in their catalogue (www.redoute.co.uk for website)

drosophila · 31/08/2006 20:55

16 and half inches calf width.

mazzystar · 31/08/2006 21:01

saw some in Faith today for "shapely calves" - a pair of grey ones which were great, though probably a one-season only pair. Jones bootmaker also good for wider calf fittings

drosophila · 31/08/2006 21:08

Oh I walk past a Jones every day. I will try them out. I have been lucky with Clarks in the past but the last one I got while they did fit they looked frumpy.

OP posts:
drosophila · 31/08/2006 21:09

and yes my calves are very 'shapely'.....

OP posts:
drosophila · 01/09/2006 20:42

Found some in M&S Autograph range -really pleased. Thanks for all the advice....

OP posts:
bananaloaf · 01/09/2006 20:44

try online cotton traders. there calf length boots have strtch inserts

drosophila · 02/09/2006 11:59

Yes the M&S one have stretchy bits too and are a great height for me as I have flat feet and can't wear heals easily.
