Maxi dresses if you're a short arse

Anyone? Is it a big fat no? I'm 5ft, and also, where on earth can you by one? The one I found in bhs petite looked like I would tread on it, and fall flat on my face.

Keep it narrow.

I think maxi skirts are probably easier tbh.

Forgettable · 17/05/2014 16:58

Midi dresses in standard length are pretty much maxi on moi*

Make sure it's not just billowing fabric, a decent cut/shape is best

*heyyyyyy you are shorter than me!!!

DotToDott · 17/05/2014 16:58

i'm 5ft2 and i wear them quite often- usually from asda and new look because that's the only shops near me.

wearing a solid colour helps make you look taller and if you cant get any that you're not tripping over i find using a belt to tuck it up a little bit helps too.

try a few on and see how you feel- i love them and they keep me really cool as well.

I have to say, 'noooo-don't do it!' Unless you are a size 8, I think they look awful on shorter people-especially if you have boobs, then you look like you're pregnant. I'm 5 ft 2 and have never seen anyone my height or shorter look good in them.

alittlebitmeh · 17/05/2014 19:17

I'm 5'2" and I'm wearing a top shop petit range one today. It does look nice. I have 2 others but I have had to shorten those. Not easy with jersey.

NormHonal · 17/05/2014 19:23

A very kind MN'er found a lovely one from the White Company last year and posted it on here so that us shortarses could all go out and buy it.

It IS a good one, not too long and gathered at the back to create a waist. I haven't looked to see if they've done a similar one this year.

I've also rejoiced in finding a couple of narrow maxi-skirts with elasticated waists that could be worn as skirts but also hoicked up around my boobs to be a dress, so maybe as a PP has already said, maxi skirts are the way to go?

Artandco · 17/05/2014 19:25

Mango sell good ones

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/05/2014 19:25

I have a WC one - might well have rec'd it before too. But it is a bit too full for me, really.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/05/2014 19:26

They have a few

LoadsaBlusher · 17/05/2014 19:58

I'm 5"2 and buy mine on Asos from the Asos Petite section
They have some lovely designs and free postage
Also if you look in EBay ,a lot of the Chinese sellers / shops sell petite length dresses, I ordered a plain black jersey maxi dress , think it was £6.99 from a Chinese seller. It took a few weeks to arrive but was perfect length

dingit · 17/05/2014 20:16

Rollonsummer, I'm glad you said that. Sadly I will never be a size 8' and I have big boobs Hmm Funnily enough, I do look better in a dress than a skirt though.

This style from Dorothy Perkins might be okay. I'm 5'4 and wear them in standard length, I did try on the petite but it was miles too short on me. They are really flattering, I lived in mine last year.

rollonthesummer · 17/05/2014 20:58

I hope you don't think I was being rude!

I agree re dresses-I wear lots, just knee length ones.

dingit · 17/05/2014 21:21

No that's fine Rollon, I just wanted someone to tell me like it is, avoid avoid avoid! When I come back in another life I will be tall, slim and C cupped Smile

I'm 5ft and wear maxi dresses! I buy cheap petite dresses on ebay or Dotty Ps petite.
