After much research I finally decided to invest in a Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush.

But today, whilst at the hygienist, I was advised that an Oral B would be the best electric toothbrush to use.

Do you use an oral B, if so which one is the best?

Is it a case of the most expensive one will be the best one?

As I understand the story, some years ago Oral B brought out an ultra-sonic toothbrush which was challenged by Philips and taken off the consumer market on the grounds that Philips "owned the sonic category". I think you may still be able to get them, but only through dentists. I haven't tried the Philips equivalent but have been thrilled with my Oral Bs, which I've used for upwards of 20 years. My present (then top of the range) ultra-sonic job has lasted at least five years of daily brushing, and holds its charge for a fortnight on holiday. It does seems to be one of those markets in which you get what you pay for and generally, the bigger the better. I don't rate the battery models at all. And IMHO neither company shines on after sales service.

I just researched them to replace an old one. It seems that the best (lots of reviews including by dentists) are the professional 1000 and 3000. I bought the 1000 and love it.

I have the 1000 and think it's great. DH got the same last week :)

The 1000 or 3000, I'll have a look at those.

A friend recommended the 5000 does anyone know much about that?

We have the 5000, love it. It has about 4/5 different settings and you can use different brush heads if you want. And then there's the timer just to make sure you do your 2 mins!!

They were on offer at boots for £99 we got our off internet just google oral b 5000 and got it for £68

I have the tri zone 1000 and I love it. It cleans so well my teeth feel like new! It's got a pressure sensor which is good and seems to hold charge better than the other ones I've had. I got it half price at boots.
