Best cross-body bags

Have started walking loads and want a good cross-body bag. Need decent size and want something practical but also reasonably stylish. Had an M&S one (not exactly the pinnacle of high-fashion, I grant you) that I quite liked (and looked remarkably like a Mulberry one), but buckle broke and would like to replace it with something marginally nicer….. Anyone have any ideas?

Also following. And is it possible to wear a cross-body bag without it making you much more dumpy/lumpy than you want to look?

merce · 14/05/2014 12:41

The best I have found so far is one by Osprey and the Longchamp planete. Keen for any other ideas, tho. I find Fossil a bit too 'practical' (almost up there with fleeces and Ecco footwear….). I saw some woman in the park the other day with a rather brilliant looking one in some sort of nylon fabric (sounds vile, but was actually rather nice in sort of Prada-stylee way). Wish I'd asked her where she got it from…..

Ooooops didn't notice you didn't like Fossil! Oh well... Grin

sonlypuppyfat · 14/05/2014 22:37

KIPLING!!! They are so strong and really lightweight and tons of colours.

frankietwospots · 14/05/2014 22:39

I love my Boden Mya cross body bag in the leopard. There's a 20% off code knocking around on the Promotional codes board.

Clarks do some

merce · 15/05/2014 12:13

Actually, may be coming round to Fossil…..! And the Kipling ones look good - but want to see in flesh to see what the material is like. Will check who stocks them. Boden one really nice, but a bit small I think. Thanks everyone. Any more ideas - keep them coming :)

I've had some nice ones from Nica, house of Fraser stock their bags. Very practical and good quality and usually come in nice colours

needtobediscreet · 15/05/2014 14:10

I like the Fossil one too, but was hoping to spend waaaay less than £100 tbh...

HappyGirlNow · 15/05/2014 15:27

I just don't see Fossil as boring and practical. And in the flesh the bags look great...

merce · 15/05/2014 15:30

Interesting to hear how they look in the flesh. I think I once saw one styled in a way that made it look a bit inter-railer if you know what I mean. Put me off, but agree they look lovely. And actually just what I am after in terms of practicality. Given that my new attempt to keep fit is walking everywhere it has to be comfy and do the job/not be easy to be pick-pocketed when absent-mindedly plugged into earphones etc. Never heard from Nica and may check them out too.

OK, what a fickle woman am I?! Am now quite converted by Fossil. Wavering between the Erin and the Explorer….. Hmmm.

Fat Face also do a few different styles:

Not fickle Grin I do prefer the Explorer myself..

merce · 16/05/2014 10:04

Think I will be ordering… torn between light tan and cappuccino….

Every time I put on a cross-body bag, I just look like a market trader with a bag for my change. Sad

Admittedly, it's not quite so bad if the bag is (a) not one of those big flat square ones, and (b) not black.

Quite like this one

I love Fossil and we have an outlet near here- only 30% or so off but better than nowt. I have a one of their keyper oil cloth bags- in a sort of Orla Kiely print. It looks great but it's a bit heavy. I now feel the need to go buy another lighter one.

merce · 16/05/2014 10:59

Know what you mean about the market trader look. Less than ideal, but need for practicality is dominating my thoughts at the mo. I have placed my order…..!

hardbeingme · 16/05/2014 11:04

the one i have has a thin strap which digs in painfully. I picked out a radley leather one for my sister which i covet every time she uses as they no longer do the style :l

HappyGirlNow · 16/05/2014 11:35

Ooh what colour did you of for? The light tan is gorgeous Grin

merce · 16/05/2014 11:45

Went for light tan! And - ahem - I also ordered the Erin small top zip in a rather lovely summery mint colour…… In for a penny and all that. Thought the small one will look nice for day to day when I don't need to shove loads of stuff in. Many thanks for your good steer!!

HappyGirlNow · 16/05/2014 15:38

Welcome! Ooh the mint Erin is pretty Grin
