I have been having my hair dyed every couple of months to hide grey (am only 30!) a neutral brown colour not dissimilar to my natural colour. The hairdresser swears there is only ash tones in the dye no warm colours , but it is fading to a brassy red colour every time. It really does not suit me. My hair has always had a bit of a warm undertone but really it's ridiculous now. What on earth do I do to change it to something cool toned which suits me?? I need to blend the grey in because I'm very self conscious about it. Help me please!

do you use a toning shampoo? my hair is dyed dark ash blonde, and even though it is a cool colour, red is the strongest pigment in all hair dye, so over time, colours will always fade leaving the red behind. i use a tone correcting shampoo, with purple pigment in it to reduce fading and brassiness, and sometimes as a cheaper alternative, i use a touch of silver a couple of times a week as that also keeps my colour cool.

Yes I do, not every wash though. It just seems to fade so quickly these days :(
