I'm not a hairdresser and I have no idea what I would be doing.
Is it easy to do yourself at home or should I send her to a hairdresser before all her hair ends drop off after my work?

how old is sil?, and has she tried hair chalks before going permanent?

CrispyFern · 13/05/2014 12:48

She is almost 16 and wants to do it for the end of exams. I don't know if she's used chalks or anything before!

the chalks are good fun to play around with colours, but they work better on lighter hair than darker.

When I do mine I decant the colour in a bowl and brush it on with a tint brush and then wrap each section in tin foil. I find that the easiest way to ensure its patch free, and it gets it nice and level Smile

Her hair in almost black, very dark. I think MIL suggested I do it to save money but I don't want to ruin SIL's head!

Don't do it if your not totally condfident about it! My own hair is very dark brown almost black and it really doesn't like dye at all. Could she not go to have it done as a post exam reward type thing?
