What type of Bikini Wax

emily19802 · 11/05/2014 21:01

So I'm planning on getting a bikini wax soon, but don't understand the "menu". There are so many types it's very confusing.

What type are you going for and which bits of hair do they take off?

I just want to feel "tidy but not necessarily sure I want to remove all the hair.

You definitely want them to use hot wax rather than strips, far less painful.

WipsGlitter · 11/05/2014 21:07

Regular is just whatever is outside your pants. I think Brazilian is all off, including undercarriage and crack, and Hollywood is the same but with a 'landing strip' ie a line of hair about an inch wide in the middle.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 11/05/2014 21:08

Hollywood is all off, Brazilian is landing strip

PeppermintInfusion · 11/05/2014 23:43

You'll probably need to ask as they all seem to interpret hollywood/Brazilian/etc differently.

I recently got a chocolate wax, it was amazing so much less painful than normal wax. I'd definitely recommend if there is a salon near you offering it! Think the brand name was Harley wax.

kingbeat23 · 11/05/2014 23:51

I like a short back and sides! Grin More than a bikini, less than a Brazilian!! (This probably isn't helping) but when I go in they ask how much I want off and I show them.

Make sure the hair isn't too long otherwise it hurts more, but if you have a good beautician it shouldn't hurt anyway.

Skivvywoman · 12/05/2014 07:24

I agree with getting it done using hot wax and trim down a bit

murphys · 12/05/2014 07:55

We get the bikini (just what would show wearing underwear), gstring (more off than bikini - not all underneath), Brazilian (all off except for landing strip) and Hollywood (all off).

Don't go a week either side of your period, as its much more painful then. Only hot wax, no strips in that area. Take a paracetomal beforehand if its your first time then you can gauge pain threshold for next time.

Thanks for all the advice. Is one style more popular than another or is it down to personal preference?

"Is one style more popular than another or is it down to personal preference?"

Personal preference, unless planning to show to a lot of people.

EduardoBarcelona · 17/05/2014 07:07

Emily. Are you a man ?

picnicbasketcase · 17/05/2014 07:08

That would have a bearing on what type of wax you'd want, certainly

Raskova · 17/05/2014 07:10

Watching this with interest! How long would you recommend the hair be before a wax? I didn't realise too long was bad. I thought you had to grow long Shock

winkywinkola · 17/05/2014 07:12

Waxing always hurts a bit. No beauty expert can prevent that.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/05/2014 07:14

why not ask at your local salon, emily?

or do they not let blokes ask those sort of questions there

MrsMarigold · 17/05/2014 08:20

I ask for higher than usual and get it done at the front too just below the c-section scar but no brazilian.

Raskova · 17/05/2014 08:45

Mrs marigold, does it hurt more going over a c section scar??

How much does the average wax cost?

why are people thinking OP is a man?

MrsMarigold · 20/05/2014 16:18

tbh I can't remember how much I pay but usually around £15 - 20. It doesn't hurt over the c-section scar but the hairs grow a bit strangely there.

There are waxers and waxers, some terrible, some brilliant. I try and go to this great russian girl at a local salon it's more expesive but ess painful and lasts longer, but I had a dreadful one a few months back on holiday (diabolical doesn't even begin to describe it).

I always anticipate the pain to be worse than it is.

Raskova · 20/05/2014 20:18

I'm not sure I could handle her getting down there. I'll think some more on it. Thinking of getting waxed everywhere. Well legs and there just don't want to be bankrupted Shock

Hollywood costs around £38 in my area

Raskova · 21/05/2014 18:34

38 ShockShockShock

Is that normal??? Lasts a month? You can get an iPhone 5s for less than that Shock

brunette123 · 21/05/2014 20:39

Well yes it is normal for home counties where I live and lasts 6 weeks I'd say. The more you have off the more they charge.

Raskova · 21/05/2014 20:50

Do they give a bulk discount?
