What's your holy grail foundation?

So far my favourite is double wear light but its not quite my HG.

I've just ordered a lily lolo starter kit after a recommendation on here.

I like medium to full coverage but not mask like. I'm also very pale so finding a colour match can be difficult!

Armani Designer Shaping Cream. I've tried what feels like every foundation under the sun (very dry and pale skin, pink toned - so a lot of the paler foundations look way too yellow), and this has been the best by far. I wish it was cheaper, but you don't need to use much (and it's not mask like or anything.)

EyelinerQueen · 11/05/2014 12:02

I'm very pale and have been on a foundation hunt for the last 2 years.

In that time I've bought and liked but not adored

Illamasqua Skin Base

MAC Studio Sculpt

Benefit Oxygen Wow

Clinique Even Better

Laura Mercier Silk Creme

NARS Sheer Glow

EL Double Wear

YSL Touche Eclat

but have finally found my holy grail foundation!

Makeup Forever HD Foundation (in shade 115).

I've had to order from Sephora US but even the £20 didn't make me hesitate. It's incredible. The best foundation I've ever used. Manages to provide medium to full coverage while making your skin look and feel completely natural and velvet-like and flawless. I'm in love!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/05/2014 12:20

Revlon colour stay. I've tried them all and good old Revlon wins for me.

AmIGoingMad · 11/05/2014 12:22

Thanks for your responses! Eyeliner what shade were you on the mac one? I was matched as nw15 but it was a big too dark really. They seem reluctant to match you to a sufficiently pale base!

Both sound good. Like you say I'm not too bothered price wise as long as its not extortionate and lasts!

EyelinerQueen · 11/05/2014 12:24

NW15 as well but it's far too dark.

They don't do a lighter shade in the Studio Sculpt only in the Studio Fix which I don't like the formula of.

It's very frustrating!

Revlon photo finish m.boots.com/mt/www.boots.com/en/Revlon-PhotoReady%C2%99-Makeup_1042568/

Don't get the Bobbi Brown foundation stick, it's rubbish.
I quite like the Skin Foundation though.

Urban decay naked skin liquid
I'm pale and love it, it blends easily with a stippling brush and looks v natural
Definitely not mask like, I have it on here instagram.com/p/lf2H_QNd3u/

Have tried nars sheer glow which I like but is thicker and doesn't work on skin with any dry patches. Illamasqua skin base is nice but again is harder work to make it look good

BumWad · 11/05/2014 14:37

I'm still searching!

Onsera3 · 11/05/2014 14:48

They sell the Makeup Forever HD at Sephora France. Prob more exp but shipping might be less than from States.

I've tried the Armani and Nars ones. Preferred the Armani but too big a gap btw shades. They have some really pale ones.

Currently using ELDW and Colorstay and prefer the ELDW but alas still searching for my HG.

WitchWay · 11/05/2014 16:20

I don't like to look too "done" & am currently using Clinique CC cream, which is more like a tinted moisturiser.

EyelinerQueen · 11/05/2014 16:23

Thanks for the tip Onsera Smile .

There are definitely some good drugstore options out there at the minute. Have recently bought both Revlon ColourStay and L'Oreal True Match which have shades pale enough for me - I'm just not in love with either product.

AlpacaYourThings · 11/05/2014 16:28

I like to use MAC Studio Fix in NC15.

I find NW15 too dark, but NC15 is perfect. Why isn't there an NC10, I'm not particularly pale.

QuinnFabray · 11/05/2014 16:32

Currently Clarins Everlasting. If anyone is looking for a good alternative to Estée Lauder Double Wear, this is very good. Pale shades too.

I was an ELDW fan for a long time, but it started to age me. The Clarins is much more natural.

Amethyst24 · 11/05/2014 16:38

Looks like you can get the MUFE in the UK

www.preciousaboutmakeup.com/makeup/make-up-for-ever-hd-foundation

Am really ken to try it as I'm after a new foundation, so thanks for the rec.

EyelinerQueen · 11/05/2014 16:41

Yeah I got all excited when I found that link Amethyst but my shade isn't there Sad .

Would have been much cheaper.

AmIGoingMad · 11/05/2014 18:20

Thanks for the recommendations!

I've got a few to try over next few months now!

Keep them coming!

Clinique Even Better mixed with Smashbox primer. I like medium to full coverage that lasts and this does. No slipping off my chin and no spots. Love it!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/05/2014 18:35

If you like smash box primer you need lanacane anti chaff gel-same stuff for a fraction of the price!

EyelinerQueen · 11/05/2014 18:37

Oh hell yes to Lanacane.

I changed from my ££ primer a few months ago and it's just amazing. Will be using it permanently.

A worthy MN recommendation (unlike the much lauded Soap and Glory foot file which I finally got this week and is shit!).

AmIGoingMad · 11/05/2014 18:44

Yes Dame I believe it was your recommendation on another thread that led to that purchase here! It's great!

OP posts:
QuinnFabray · 11/05/2014 19:07

Smash box/Lanacane isn't for everyone. I hate the silicone feel, makes me want to claw my face off, and it does nothing for my oil control. Instead of just being an oily mess, I'm an oily plasticky mess. I prefer a lotion type primer. MAC SPF 50 is really good.

EyelinerQueen · 11/05/2014 19:18

Yeah from what I've read it's recommended to work best on normal to dry skins Quinn.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/05/2014 20:32

Mac has silicone in it so it must just be the formula that's better for you rather than the silicone iyswim.
