What would Claire Underwood wear if she were a SAHM?

Have just started watching House of Cards (only seen three episodes, so no spoilers please!) and love the way Claire dresses - minimalistic and expensive Smile - and would love to emulate it. But I freelance (from home) and am otherwise shopping, cooking, rushing around between school and various classes, sitting on the floor playing with my dcs. Would feel a bit daft in pencil skirts and high heels, as much as I love the look.

How would you adapt her look if she were to be a SAHM?!

Opph, she'd wear that beautifully expensive soft flowing jersey stuff in white or beige with expensive soft leather sandals. And flowing cardigans she would wrap around herself.

Her face & hair would be exactly the same. IMO

I admire then hate her (or vice versa) every episode.

she wouldnt be one.

noddyholder · 10/05/2014 17:01

Cashmere, silk, denim, leather and sort of refined rock chick. And the same hair and make up.

EduardoBarcelona · 10/05/2014 17:01

you can wear a CU style shirt - the Boden ones are nicely fitted

MaeMobley · 10/05/2014 17:05

I imagine her in J Crew/ White Co short of stuff in white/ grey/ beige.

But she would never be at SAHM.

EduardoBarcelona · 10/05/2014 17:06

she would never be one. too powerless. too drudgey

noddyholder · 10/05/2014 17:06

A plain shirt with jeans and lovely boots is always nice. And a big cashmere cardigan. I love her look but am also freelance so can't go there I work with builders most days! They would really laugh at me in one of her dresses

noddyholder · 10/05/2014 17:08

god its not fair

Springing · 10/05/2014 18:03

Ok, if it's too much of a stretch to imagine her being one - then somebody with the same figure, sense of style, money.

J Crew is good, I think. Neutral colours. Shirts, slim trousers.

White Company Cashmere jumpers and cardigans in tones such as ash rose over 7/8th style jeans in dark denim, black, taupe and navy.

Ballet pumps in grey, black, tan and ivory.

Tan thong sandals.

Soft linen unstructured t-shirts

Trench

Subtle jewellery.

Neutral buttery suede toned bag and tan shopper.

Plain sleeveless camis/shift tops or with slight draping but no patterns.

Italian leather conker brown rider style boots.

Small watch with a plain face and tan leather strap.

Oversize white shirt

Everything neutral!
That's the vibe I get.

SnowBells · 10/05/2014 23:37

A lot of the clothes you see on Jaeger, Reiss and J Crew...

polyhymnia · 10/05/2014 23:49

Really don't think she'd ever be one .

Milmingebag · 11/05/2014 00:22

It's just the minimalist aesthetic translated into clothes that work with the various roles a SAHM has the OP is asking about.

Jennifer Anniston has this look as well - a sort of casual take on the Clare Underwood thing.

Springing · 11/05/2014 14:47

Right, Milmingebag - it can't be impossible that there might be women with her sartorial taste who also find themselves as a sahm for a while, or working from home.

I like the suggestions everyone's made!
