Best hairbrush for long, thick hair?

I've just realised that I've been using my incredibly-cheap Tresemme vented hairbrush for probably about four or five years Blush and I am in need of a new one! I've never owned a "good" hairbrush.

Please share your recommendations with me - will spend a fair bit to get a good one. Are the Mason and Pearson ones worth it?

I have long, thick, highlighted hair, FWIW, and already have round vented ones and a BabyLiss Big Hair for drying purposes, this is literally for brushing.

TIA.

I agree with snooky, don't find the tangle teaser very effective on thick hair. It just doesn't go beyond the top layer and get to the tangles underneath. I also hate not having a handle!

Dd1 has a michel mercier brush for thick hair which is like a tangle teezer but bigger and with a handle.

I have the one that teacherwith2kids linked to, and I can second it being brilliant. I think I've had it for at least 10 years!

Despite the crap reviews I bought a cheap paddle brush from boots that has a microfibre insert that helps speed up the drying time as you blow dry your hair.

It's bloody brilliant! My hair has been bleached almost white from jet black then subjected to three hair dyes to become a mid brown and this brush helps smooth and dry my hair very quickly. My hair is quite thick and is fairly long, down to my boobs.

I love it! I use other brushes for my handbags, but I can't recommend thus paddle brush enough for blow drying.
