How to accessorise a black maxi dress for daytime?

I finally managed to find a flattering maxi dress that doesn't look like a tent on me which I want to wear on holiday, in the summer etc. Any suggestions on how to accessorise it and what kind of shoes to wear with it? It's easy to dress up a little for evening, but I'm stuck for ideas for day time wear, which is when I hope to wear it most.

It's a plain jersey maxi dress with a v neck and short sleeves.

Depending on the neckline, I would go for a big statement necklace and / or bracelet cuff. Slipper style flats or gladiator style sandals during the day.

Does it need a belt? If so I would avoid a necklace and just have a co-ordinating bracelet and belt.

Thanks for the suggestions. It doesn't need a belt, but I could wear one with it for a different look.

There are too many statement necklaces out there to choose from. I'd love some links if anyone had some suggestions...

On holiday, I'd just wear it with tan sandals, or maybe flip flops, and perhaps some bangles, or a leather bracelet.
