Any suggestions about buying day dresses?

I like this style of dress but I'm not keen on the price. I live in the middle of nowhere so anything has to be ordered on line.

Could anyone suggest where I could find something similar? I'm 5'2", size 12, with rugby-player style legs which is why I can't wear skater dresses!

These are quite similar and half the price?

JustAboutAdeqeuate · 09/05/2014 09:49

I was going to link to the same site eyeliner just did. I can't wait until I've had my baby and lost enough weight to fit in my Lady V dresses again.

Ooo, I like their Hepburn dresses!

If you have a great vintage shop near you they're good for vintage tea dresses...

I know a few brilliant ones but all in SE London and not online.

SuperFlyHigh · 09/05/2014 10:44

also generally I pay £25- £30 for vintage dresses.

check Ebay too

Super I live in deepest, darkest Somerset - there aren't many great shops here, let alone great vintage ones Grin

OP - I know Somerset well... do you ever travel to Bath? nice vintage there

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 09/05/2014 12:57

We trek into Bath occasionally - where is the vintage shop?

Oh dunno there are a few I see. SIL's from Bath so will ask her for you.

having looked there are also:-

uk.search.yahoo.com/search?fr=mcafee&type=A211GB0&p=vintage+shops+bath

vintageandantiques.co.uk/

there's some shop outside Bath (on road to where inlaws are) that sells antiques, furs etc (vintage).

Dorothy perkins a lot cheaper, although shorter, you said you're 5'2" so it should fall on your knee.

oasis midi dress, this actually might be too long! Although you could have it taken up.

MaryWestmacott · 09/05/2014 14:44

It also might be worth looking at dresses described as 'skater' dresses, but in a 'long/tall' range, so will fall a little longer on you.

Ooh beautiful dresses on that Lady V page. You may have just solved my dilemma for an upcoming wedding. How do they size up I'm a 14 with big-ish boobs?

Lambzig · 09/05/2014 17:53

I can't believe I am doing this but was in BHS on Wednesday to look at lighting and wandered through the womens department and found myself liking a couple of things including this.
Lining polyester though. It looked nice.

MaryWestmacott · 09/05/2014 18:16

Lambzig Shock I like something in BHS. Is this a sign that I'm sliding towards thinking that polyester, elasticated waist, poo coloured slacks are an acceptable thing to leave the house in??!!!?

Musetta · 09/05/2014 19:13

I bought 3 lovely dresses from Bhs a couple of years ago and have been banging on to people about how they have some nice stuff!

Lady vintage dresses differ in size according to the style-the swing dresses tend to come up smaller so I would size up,ditto the day dresses. The hepburns are a bit bigger so stick to your normal size or size down-check the measurements they give online and you should be ok.

Lots of funky day dresses here!
