Can I go to a wedding dressed like this?

The wedding is in the summer starting just after lunch time. I think it will be low key, at the register office with an attached venue for cocktail hour, meal and disco.
I have this dress, hope still fitsis it suitable?

Can you recommend shoes and bag to go with it?

I have been to only two weddings in the UK. For the first one I was over the top overdressed Shock (like people do in my home country) and the second one I was slightly underdresses Blush, so now I am very confused.

Yes! Looks lovely. Is there an underskirt?

I think maybe some navy court shoes or sling backs

BarbieCan · 08/05/2014 09:50

Oh navy colour shoes!
I lent this dress once and the person wore with pink shoes...pink shoes is to much isn't it?
Should I go to closed shoes or sandals? Peep toes shoes look wrong on me.
Can't do very high heels.
Is underskirt a lining? Yes it has a lining.

Definitely, it is gorgeous. Carvella have some lovely purple heels at the moment, think they are 'apollo'. I am sure I saw them in house of fraser... will look for a link!

I am in Scotland and you dress up for weddings here... I went to a wedding in Somerset and stuck out like a sore thumb!

ILoveWooly · 08/05/2014 09:53

PURPLE SHOES

ILoveWooly · 08/05/2014 09:54

Drat, just saw you don't like high heels. Sorry.

ShoeWhore · 08/05/2014 09:55

Georgeous dress OP. I think pink or purple shoes would look great - navy would also work if you want a slightly more understated look.

SuperFlyHigh · 08/05/2014 10:00

Pink or purple shoes but try a small heel/kitten heel rather than not as would work better.

BarbieCan · 08/05/2014 10:01

I do like high heels, but high heels don't like me...

Thanks for the purple shoes link, gorgeous. I want to buy the shoes and bag together to make sure it matches.

I already have a bigger bag to put my flat pumps inside in case I need it on the way back, hopefully there will be a cloakroom there.

I'd also take a wrap or bolero to go over the top part (arms) as can be chilly. tons in Accessorize/Coast etc.

BarbieCan · 08/05/2014 10:04

Oh yes, i will need a smaller heel, the thick ones, don't know what it is called? Would platforms work?

Now, what colour nails?

I will need to tide my hair all up as no one can tame it, should I put anything on my head/hair?
I am thinking a proper ballerina bun, not on the top of the head but at the top of my neck iyswim?

Oh never though about the wrap, I was more concerned about being too hot tbh, the dress material is thick cotton.

These shoes are nice and have a decent heel.

I think you should do a contrast, either pink nails or maybe pick out a colour in the dress, purple nails would be too much unless different shade like mauve/lilac.

ballerina bun is fine, no you don't need a hat!

BarbieCan · 08/05/2014 10:30

Thanks for the link super I can see there is a matching bag with the shoes but I didn't feel it...not sure why? Maybe is the satin material.

There is pink in the dress, I will do pink nails.

Not hat, no...was thinking about putting something on the actual ballerina bun, but maybe it will be far too much.
Will concentrate on the make up instead.

Should I do a classic ballerina bun or go crazy?

Love the second bun OP.

Re heels, how do you feel about wedges? I'm not brilliant at walking in heels but trip around in wedges almost like they are flats Smile

SuperFlyHigh · 08/05/2014 11:32

You will probably have to trawl the shops looking for shoes (try Moda in Pelle) but I wasn't feeling the fabric either...

squizita · 08/05/2014 12:04

I would wear this with some nice one-colour wedges, more comfy all day.

LoveVintage · 08/05/2014 16:20

Pink or navy wedges, pink or navy bag, (I don't like being too matchy so would have them in different colours) hair in a bun with yellow/pink/pale blue flower (I'd go for yellow) or a flower on your wrist. Lovely.

annarachel · 08/05/2014 16:36

Quite similar about your attached dress. Just grab on Macy's online store.

Never thought about mismatching shoes and bag for a wedding, interesting.
It would be forbidden in my home country.

OP posts:
BarbieCan · 08/05/2014 17:00

Would these shoes be too quirk?

OP posts:
Nocomet · 08/05/2014 17:05

I wouldn't worry. No ones going to care if your shoes and bag don't match.

The dress is an absolutely perfect English wedding attending dress (same style as the one I have, although mine is white with big green and black flowers, I have green low peep toe sling backs, can't do women's court shoes and a black bag, oh and a silly matching fascinator, because we have a shop that makes them and she happened to have some of the green in her feather box).

Nocomet · 08/05/2014 17:07

Yes, those shoes would be too quirky, but they are fab!

BarbieCan · 08/05/2014 17:17

Oh the non matching shoe and bag are quite liberating Blush.
I think I will go for navy shoes and pink bag (hope I can borrow one).

Would this bag be too juvenile? I got as a present but decide to keep for my daughter. Doesn't it look like a child's bag?

Barbie ... I wouldn't put those shoes with that dress, but I WOULD sooo wear those shoes to a big event like a wedding, perhaps with a plainer shift dress.

The Radley bag doesn't look too girlish, everyone knows the Radley logo - it just looks cute and summery. :)
