What to wear to the theatre?

So, for a friends birthday, a group of us are off to the Sunderland Empire.
What does one wear to the theatre?
I'm very much a jeans and teeshirt (no statement necklace, no scarf, I'm sure you get the idea) and flats girl. Black trousers to work (with flats).
Any suggestion that won't be too far out there for me??

No one really seems to dress up much to go to the theatre anymore. You'd definitely be fine with jeans and a nice top. Or even jeans and a T shirt if you didn't want to make an effort. (Having said that, the Sunderland Empire might be a really smart theatre. I've never been.)

Cheers.
I doubt its smart - its in Sunderland :)
Jeans and a half decent top, I can do.
No panic shopping required. I'm happy!

What are you going to see?
I regularly wear jeans to theatre, but with a pretty (or smartish) top rather than t-shirt - flats are good Smile

The Sunderland Empire is a lovely theatre - we are lucky in NE now to have a theatre big enough to have these big 'on tour' shows.

Anything goes really, but I do find it gets really hot in the theatre generally speaking, so layers or a nice cardigan over a top with jeans would be good.

just went to book of mormon in jeans, blazer and flats and did not feel underdressed in the slightest

Oh I'm going there on Saturday to see warhorse! It's the matinee though so was just going to be casual, thinking printed trousers, flats and black biker jacket?

Agree with everyone else - anything goes now, but take layers - sometimes it's hot and stuffy, and other times someone gets carried away with the air-con and blasts it onto your neck for the 3 hours.... I've got into the habit of making sure I can sit in a heatwave or stick a scarf on, depending Grin

Just seen War Horse at the Sunderland Empire - beautiful old restored theatre but it was hot (could have been something to do with the hundreds of children there at the matinee!).
Anyway, enjoy but dress cool.

Excellent.
Sounds like I'm off to see exactly what the rest of you are all going too :)

Jeans OK, wear layers.

Enjoy All!
