Story so far:

Have always been darkest brown. Started going grey at 24. Spent a fortune covering it.

Decided in January to bleach it and dye pillar box red. The bleach ruined my hair so I shaved it all off and decided to let it grow in grey.

I'm (only?) 33! I was recently diagnosed hyperthyroid due to Grave's Disease and have read a few articles that say there might be a connection between my premature grey and my thyroid.

Anyway now I just have to wait for it to grow grow grow. is my glamorous grey idol Envy.

Anyone else embracing the grey?

I've been reading The Highland Fashionista's blog but her knock-kneed poses and dodgy outfits have put me off. Any other grey bloggers I should know about?

Thanks FarSide, some great pictures there that I felt I could identify with style-wise. Hmm, the grey hair might be lower maintenance but I can see I am going to have to up my game in terms of effort with make up to feel less drab & more confident.

I don't know if I am very grey or not but I do know that I dont want to look grey. I find it very ageing and I prefer to colour it blond which I find very flattering and soft and throws lots of light on my face.

Milmingebag · 11/05/2014 00:50

Marvellous.

please ignore the smirking pose...

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 01:24

And really bizarrely, I am getting way loads more male attention than I did when I dyed it. Just saying.

BindibachMilly · 11/05/2014 01:35

You look great Madam. Still young and vibrant. Im guessing you were dark before you went grey. I get loads more attention as a blond so maybe its just the being lighter thing.

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 01:36

thank you bindi! I have just turned 50 so am embracing the whole shebang!

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 01:37

It is faintly odd to have my skin colour more vibrant than my hair tho...

BindibachMilly · 11/05/2014 02:06

How did you feel turning 50? Im 52.

BindibachMilly · 11/05/2014 02:08

I know this goes against the grain but I just had to say it. You would look amazing with some white highlights around your face. Sort of go with the light theme.

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 02:09

Actually fine! 30 was the worst. Until I woke up and realised all those 'old' people were perfectly lovely and deal cleverer than I thought I was.

40 I saw out in style. In Venice. In a Palazzo! Way to go!

50 just sort of slid by. I had a lovely party, but honesty, as my slightly older sister says, it all just blurs after a while! Still me. Still a bit rubbish, still a bit great, mostly middling...

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 02:11

As for the highlights around the face, I think nature is doing it for me! Def more real white around the face than elsewhere!

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 02:14

lip colour is really a must now, I find!

I am particularly addicted to Estee lauder plum 8 hour lip salve.

Not very evident on the photo, however!

BindibachMilly · 11/05/2014 02:15

I was apprehensive as 50 has always seemed "old" but I get mistaken for late 30s early 40s by nearly everyone so Im not complaining. I am still constantly surprised when I have to remember how old I actually am though. Funny that.

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 02:19

I think it is also a matter of genetics. My mother always looked at least ten years younger than her actual age. Despite having six children (in fact the doctor who attended her last birth thought she was a loon for saying it was her sixth, not a stretch mark in sight and Audrey Hepburn all the way!) Tragically for me, my pa is not a looker, so I reckon I get about five years off at the most! In a good light! With Candles!

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 02:21

Grey is the new sexy. Gavel.

BindibachMilly · 11/05/2014 02:22

No you look good. You remind me of one of the Bond ladies....whats her name??? She was the mother on The Upper Hand......ammmmmm!!! Im going to have to look it up unless you know who I mean.

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 02:22

Now that is a compliment! Hannah Gordon? Or summat?

BindibachMilly · 11/05/2014 02:25

Got it. Honor Blackman

Look how grey I am!!!
MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 02:27

ah yes! But I shall just point out she was actually in her sixties in that show!

MadameDefarge · 11/05/2014 02:28

I forgive you! Wink

Fideline987654321 · 11/05/2014 02:38

Honor Blackman Wink

BindibachMilly · 11/05/2014 02:42

No no, I don't mean you look like her in that show but that you look like her in the picture I posted of her in her bond days.

BindibachMilly · 11/05/2014 02:42

Thanks Fideline Smile
