Have you been to a 1st Communion lately? What to wear?

I am going to a 1st communion next weekend.
It is going to be pretty low key after the church, just a small celebration at their home, but I am worried about my footwear. I have the dress and the bag, is it ok to wear flat sandals at the church for a 1st communion service?
I don't own a lot of pair of heels, just 2 and they are black and evening style. My dress is cream.

Wonder if it's the same one I'm going to ! Flat shoes is fine .

I'm going to one next week. Flat shoes are fine, I never wear heels as I can't totter walk in them. I'm wearing trousers and a naice top.

But are sandals appropriate? They aren't very open and cover a lot of the foot and is two colours.

Would you mix beige colour dress with brow&black sandals and black handbag with a touch of brow?

Dress code is 'naice daytime occasion wear' usually, the parents and siblings are usually a bit more weddingy but other guests needn't worry so much.

Sandals are fine, no need for heels if you don't like them... Just look smart and presentable.

ShelaghTurner · 04/05/2014 19:46

Yes sandals are fine.

I don't think anyone will be offended by your feet being on show Grin

If you saw the get up half of the parents and siblings wear near us at communion time, you wouldn't be worried about a bit of toe showing!

My son has his in a few weeks. Im wearing either straight dark jeans, wedges and a blazer or straight cropped trousers with a heel or wedge and a silk kimono cardi type thing.

You as a guest dont need to be that dressed up. Im only putting a face on cos the other mothers will judge me!

At DD2's communion there were guests in full wedding style wear - including fascinators and some guests my mum in ancient fleeces.

My church is pretty laid back - the priest is just happy that there are people there celebrating with the communicants.

Wear whatever shoes you feel most comfortable in. Beige and either brown or black is a lovely combination.

Phew!!

Definitely very different from my home country.
I bet return the bag I bought for the occasion [grim]

I went to one last year, lots of the families were in summer wedding guest outfits. There was a lot of skin tight bright orange on show, not to mention the fake tan. And sky high wedges, the espadrille style. You'll be fine. :o

My top one was a coach turning up for a baptism (done after our mass) with people drinking wine/ cider in it.

Where is Home Country Falconi. Im in Ireland and we take them v seriously and some people do dress like a wedding but that's usually the parents. Guests are fine!
