Anyone seen jersey dresses for wearing to the beach etc?

I want a couple of cheap (but flattering) dresses for wearing for breakfast/going to the beach/pool on holiday.

I obviously don't want to spend much money as they usually get ruined and they need to be between 36-40 inches as I am tall.

Has anyone seen anything which fits the bill?

charity shop or outlet shop if you are also thin - many of these come from Asia where a size 12 is 'large'.

spookyskeleton · 04/05/2014 19:28

Not thin unfortunately Sad would need size 14/16

What about a kaftan type thing?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 04/05/2014 19:38

H and M do fab ones.

mimiasovitch · 04/05/2014 19:40

I had some lovely ones last year from Debenhams.

TheWanderingUterus · 04/05/2014 19:44

If you mean a t-shirt type dress in stretchy jersey material Matalan has some for around £10. Black with thin red stripes and some other colours I can't remember.

JustAboutAdeqeuate · 04/05/2014 19:46

Primark have some surprisingly nice maxi length jersey dresses in at the moment, so could be worth looking there for shorter ones (I was looking for maxi length so didn't notice presence or absence of shorter ones)

NickiFury · 04/05/2014 19:51

Manteray at Debenhams. I love their dresses, not sure whether they would be cheap enough though but there's a sale on at the moment and they're lovely quality.

I have this which I used last week on holiday- with many compliments. I am 5 10 and it's long enough on me

macandcheesewithbaconbits · 04/05/2014 19:52

They have a few on the website . I tried the blue and white stripe one but it was v unflattering on me

LadyStark · 04/05/2014 19:53

Some great dresses in GAP that meet this brief, tried on a few this week and there were so many options.

LaTrucha · 04/05/2014 20:10

That Matalan one is nice and quite flattering although the colours here were black with an ecru strip and navy with a red stripe.

These are also super cheap in Dotty Ps on a bank holiday ffer

MiloSimpson · 04/05/2014 21:16

Primark have quite a few - simple but v nice.

Skivvywoman · 04/05/2014 21:17

Boohoo have some lovely cheap ones

MyrtleDove · 04/05/2014 21:26

BHS have lots of surprisingly nice ones at the moment.

spookyskeleton · 04/05/2014 21:30

Thanks for all the suggestions Smile

DP's have some lovely ones but are all too short. Have had a look at Gap and like them but just too much ££. Can only see maxi dresses at Matalan but want short ones.

I obviously need a trip to Primark Smile

I bought three last year from m and s. They are jersey, sleeveless, scoop ish neck, and down to my knee. In their beachwear range, I think they were £12. I bought them in July, so they may be coming into the shops soon. They are great for exactly what you're saying.

spookyskeleton · 04/05/2014 21:57

I have had a look at M&S and the dresses they have look particularly unflattering (triangle shaped with no definition at the waist) so I hope they do get some others in soon Wink

Maybe too formal for the beach but definitely perfect for lunch/day trips & dinner out.

Glitterfeet · 05/05/2014 08:49

H&m usually have a good range.

WildBill · 05/05/2014 09:45

I saw some gorgeous ones in White stuff yesterday.

Jersey/lovely summery colours, they had the same dresses in 2 length options, knee length and maxi.
I was rushed but I'm definately going to try on a few when I get time. I'm tall at 178cm and the knee length looked like they would be ok.
Not cheap though, somewhere around the £45 mark :-(

WildBill · 05/05/2014 09:47

Forgot to add have a look at New Look 'Tall' (online only) I've had a few excellent buys from them recently and they are cheap.

skinmysunshine · 05/05/2014 10:02

I was going to suggest Gap as well. I've got a couple from there and they are lovely

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 05/05/2014 10:10

Can you get to a Gap outlet shop? I paid £35 for one last year Shock from a normal gap shop. I didn't want to pay that much but it was exactly what I wanted and I CBA trailing round any further (hate shopping). But it was the best buy ever and washed great etc.

So I got two more from a Gap outlet shop a few weeks ago for the princely sum of £9 each Grin.

spookyskeleton · 05/05/2014 10:31

I do like H&M ones but they are all barely crotch length on me... if I was size 10 with lovely slim legs, they would probably be OK but not at size 14[win

I can get to a Gap outlet shop but have always found it pot luck as to what they have on there. Worth a shot though.

Will have a look at New Look now Smile.
