Help! I'm stuck in a style rut and want to change my look, completely.

I'm a bit stuck, style wise right now. I basically live in jeans (bootcut or straight cut), trainers, baggy t-shirts and hoodies. This was fine, but I'm in the process of losing weight, I've lost nearly 2 stone and I'm not happy with my old look anymore.

I want to be a rock chick, but I'm not 100% sure where to begin.

Converse? Knee boots? Other footwear?
What kind of tops?
Would straight cut jeans look good, or do I need to go down the leggings under skirt, or with long top route?
What about make up? The only things I can't do are eyeliner and my bottom lashes as I just flinch when I try, but can do the rest fairly well.

I am seriously fed up of dressing "big" as I call it, I want to unleash my inner rebel a bit! I want to look GOOD, not just dressing this way because nothing else suits me.

I'm a size 14 atm, hoping to get down to a 12 or possibly 10.

I think you need to change gradually. If you ditch all your clothes for something different

  1. you might feel that you are playing at dressing up and 2) people might notice and comment on it, which can knock your confidence.

So, what sort of stuff do you like? If you started with some new jeans and maybe new trainers or something, you could work from there.

buy some neutral tops, v neck t shirts and nice slim jeans then play about with accessories

keep make up simple too and concentrate on a really good hair cut and colour and lippie. do you want to put a photo up?

I like dark colours, deep reds, purples, blues etc. I like lighter pinks as well, strangely. One thing I love, is the messy hair look (I've got a very short bob, so could probably pull that off).

I do like band/event type t-shirts, and quite like the Jack Daniels type brand ones as well.

I agree, doing everything at once will probably freak everyone out, including me (and as I live at home, it might concern the family a tad!) I might try some experiments in make up first, along with some nicer jackets, instead of hoodies.

Pinterest is your friend. Loads of inspiration. Biker jacket maybe? That would be rock chick...

The best photo I have is this one, taken at Christmas (this one's actually pretty good - I'm in a dress!) Grin

Black mens style jacket... looks great with jeans and converse or over dresses. Probably a bit late in the year now for knee high boots, ballerinas look nice with skinny jeans... which I think you should try on. I'm a size 10/12 and wear them all the time now, despite my initial fears about them.

I do have a pair of skinny jeans in a 14, I need to wear them more really. I do have a lovely biker style jacket, which works very well when it's warm enough!!

I think I'm going to get some nice new makeup next week, and start experimenting, and see who notices :)

Right, think I've settled on a new eye palette at least, one of the Urban Decay ones. Will go into local Debenhams concession either tomorrow or Tuesday, and have a proper look.

Just need an eye pencil, and good mascara now, maybe a concealer (I have skin that's prone to spots if I smother it in foundation, so tend not to use it)

Oooh, I'm excited about this :) I have some jeans/nice tops/Converse already so will see how I go on with new makeup and go from there :)
