Oh help! Stage outfit for 70s funky disco band?

I used to sing in a soul band where the dress code was easy... the little black dress. But I've just joined a new funky band and really want to go for something more ...er..."groovy" (!) - colourful, maybe sparkly ... ? Have a gig in a week's time and so far my eBay purchases have all been hilariously bad... could anyone suggest something from the high street?

I'm 5' 8, straight shape, size 12, good legs but need to hide tum so need to avoid anything remotely bodycon. A bit of sleeve is advisable. Oh yeh and I'm 44
so a boob tube probably isn't :-)

Thank you!

I know it hasn't got sleeves but this caught my eye, especially with a similar necklace.

Justinepants · 02/05/2014 00:54

I think this would sparkle nicely.

Justinepants · 02/05/2014 01:31

Disco?

Abigail's party?

Bewildermum · 02/05/2014 19:25

Ooh Justine I absolutely LOVE that river island one.... looks perfect, but says it's sold out. I'll visit the store tomorrow..... The h&m one is def worth a try too although I normally need something with a bit more shape. Spot-on for style though,

thanks.

I was even wondering about trying a jumpsuit... wide leg probably.. are they easy to wear do you think?

Oh no, how annoying! I wonder what a 10 would be like. I can't see it anywhere else online

Apart from a maternity one (which I loved) I haven't tried a jumpsuit but people on here seem to rave about them. I think you'd just have to try a few on.

Justinepants · 02/05/2014 19:59

Look, this screams 70s! What's your back like?

Bewildermum · 02/05/2014 21:57

Oh yeh you're right! Only available in a 6 though ;-) (and I really did want a colour) - but you're right about the style - I'll try some on tomorrow. Thanks so much Justine... I'm on a mission to find something like that River Island one now....

this is amazing but maybe over budget

MrsLettuce · 02/05/2014 22:13

Oh, did you see this RI one?

Bewildermum · 02/05/2014 22:15

Oh yeh - amazing but yes sadly over-budget! :-)

Bewildermum · 02/05/2014 23:01

Oh I hadn't seen that pink one MrsLettuce - like it - but again sadly only in a size 8 on the site - I'll see if it's in store though, ta!

Justine, that one says "expected to restock in 4 weeks"... grrr! Then found this similar one though which looks nice (I like that shape of neckline) ... but we're back to black again.

What do you think of this jumpsuit?

Bewildermum · 03/05/2014 00:26

Or maybe something more along the lines of the kaftan dress?

This in another colour could be perfect...

Love this but not sure I could carry it off - do you think the underdress bit is bodyconish?

This caught my eye in H&M yesterday

FelixFelix · 03/05/2014 07:43

Sorry I don't have any input but I would LOVE to be in a 70's funky disco band. That's awesome. I'd wear something glittery with a gold cape thing attached to my arms that looks like wings. Hopefully you know what I mean Grin

Bewildermum · 03/05/2014 20:49

Hehe Felix I think I do! No gold capes on the high street today but I ended up buying this. Not entirely sure it's a good idea or what to wear with it....!. Would black opaque tights be ok? But anyway thanks to everyone for your time and suggestions!

Deathraystare · 04/05/2014 07:58

Looks lovely but far too impractical for me and my old lady bladder! How about (if your legs can stand it) some shimmery/sheeny tights? I think black opaque would be too heavy??

Remember lots of bright make up. Go overboard on sheeny lipgloss, cheeks etc. Glitter shadow or at least glitter eyeliner.

I loves me some funk!!!

Justinepants · 04/05/2014 22:00

Ooh, the play suit is very groovy! Would silver tights and matching boots be too much?

I've also just found a couple more dresses (I've checked the stock this time too!). You probably don't need more than one outfit but I really like this one. Available in 2 weeks.

Funky

Comfy but perhaps a bit warm.
