No. I'm at Westfield TopShop right now and the quality of some of it leaves a lot to be desired. That yellow dress is cheap polyester, for example. There is a nice black floral cotton waffle weave sun dress, though.

IsabelleAdjani · 30/04/2014 13:32

It's very very expensive for what it is... I got stuff from the previous collections and was not that impressed with the quality, found it worse than usual Topshop stuff. That black floral sundress is nice though, as are the fringy suede and leather jackets.

Ujjayi · 30/04/2014 17:46

I ordered the kaftan too Laska - had to order via Net A Porter as it sold out whilst actually in my Topshop basket this morning! I also bought the white embroidered smock dress. I am concerned about quality though and shall not be keeping if it is a load of old tat - can't bear synthetics or poor quality natural fabrics.

Laska42 · 30/04/2014 18:21

Yup me too I hope its nice and true to size, im a 10/12 but got the 12 in the end (and a 14) .. due to norkage (Kate dont have any so hope one does it ) .

I ordered both 12 and 14 in the tan suede jacket ..so one should fit ok .. (dont have experience of topshop sizes, so thought id play safe .. and rememberd that i had to size up on my Mint Velvet leather jacket )

The cream dress looked good (would have loved it for a wedding dress) and also the floral maxi , (sort of wished id taken a punt on that now).

Actually, they all were on line for sale at 6am! , ( and no i didnt get up especially early , just thought id look to see when the collection was opening for sale and it was all there !) so i was lucky , no one lese seemed to be buying ..looking forward to getingthem now, ( though how im going to convinced DH that I 'always had this old fringed suede jacket in the wardrobe'. i dont know! WinkHmm .. My money though..he cant say nowt ! Grin

oh I am sad , have been quite excited about it all day ! ( yes That.is.very.sad.)

Her previous collections came up small size-wise. I ordered 10's which thinking about it was probably rather optimistic! I think the cream dress will be fine, given the cut. I don't mind too much about the kaftan.

There are already items listed on ebay. I never know whether to return to store or sell and make a profit. Making a profit seems rather mean, IMO but then again if people are prepared to pay? And they do pay ridiculous sums of money, or so it would seem.

Laska42 · 30/04/2014 18:40

Hmm.. a good point ujjayi..I didnt get two sizes for that reason, but admit it could be tempting to make back a bit of what I paid for the ones ill hopefully want to keep ..(so could think of it as discount rather than profit)..Though can I be bothered with ebay hassle ? .. was a bit disallusioned with peoples expectations on what was perfectly good condition (almost new) stuff last time I tried selling

But , yes Ill go look and see if the things I bought are there .....but probably by the time get mine delivered , those who were keen and missed out will have moved onto other desires! ..

Could be worth tracking a couple of things..? (I bet there are a load of the navy fringe jacket things .. I didnt like that at all )

.. Blimey.. look at the resale asking prices! Some of those ebay sellers are having a laugh aint they ?

OP posts:
Ujjayi · 30/04/2014 19:04

I know - it is outrageous.

I collect pieces from the Matthew Williamson for H&M collection from eBay and I am astounded at the asking prices at times (I do not pay them, I hasten to add...if it's still floating around now, it will still be floating around next month or so at a lesser price).

Ujjayi · 01/05/2014 12:44

Laska the kaftan arrived. It is beautiful. Really lovely fabric. Sizing is generous too. I ordered a 10 (am leaning more towards a 12 especially in Topshop) but this hangs really well. Even when I have lost the extra weight I am carrying now, it will look fab.

I am definitely keeping. I think...still awaiting the cream dress!

Laska42 · 01/05/2014 16:57

Thats great Ujjayi , mine says dispatched ( I got it from Topshop ) , hopefully it wont be too big then ..

CointreauVersial · 01/05/2014 17:07

I have to say, virtually none of it appealed.

KosherBacon · 01/05/2014 17:34

Nothing. I thought it was all awful. The style and the fabrics. Not good at all.

Laska42 · 01/05/2014 17:59

We cant all like the same, and I dont know about ujjayi (she's probably young and lovely ) but I was a teen in the late 70s and always wanted a fringed suede jacket in those days (but was too broke)

So now im slim again after not being so in my mid-years and still have latent hippy tendencies...I thought why not ?... (so as long as the quality is good ill keep it)

Who cares about being a bit mutton?, as my old Gran would have thought me .. im up for aging disgracefully ) Grin

I loved the black dress with feathers, but nowhere to wear it!

cashmerecardigans · 01/05/2014 20:19

I bought the chiffon maxi dress. It arrived today and it's absolutely gorgeous, so it's a keeper. It is expensive for what it is, but it's beautifully cut and I sashayed around the house in it feeling remarkably glam. I agree the sizes are a bit more generous than her collection first time around. I also bought the leather jacket, but I really don't like it, so that will go back. I really wanted the black crochet dress, but that only seemed to be on net a porter and I missed it. I think some of it will come back in as Topshop now says it will notify you when back in stock. It would be a bit mad to not sell more than one days worth!

Ujjayi · 02/05/2014 07:56

Laska - you might well be my new favourite MNer Wink ... I'm 43...as opposed to "young & lovely".

Fridge - I think there is a lot to be said about substandard fabrics in collaborations. Having said that, I have two Celia Birtwell items - one from her Topshop range & one from John Lewis - & they are both silk and cut true to size.

I am constantly amazed that any designer can charge several hundred pounds for polyester clothing - no matter how beautiful or creative the cut. And the high street is awash with it too. Whistles & Mint Velvet in particular, stand out for me as having a laugh when you consider the amount of man made fibre & the frequently less than perfect finishing on items.

libertytrainers · 02/05/2014 08:01

i bought a few bits from the innes de la fressange range from uniqlo and it was all about 15! topshop does overcharge for everything imo.

and stuff just doesn't last.

Laska42 · 03/05/2014 08:54

well one of the kaftans has arrived and the other and jackets are on their way.

Yes its lovely, also i think the fabric and finish is really good (I have to say Iam slightly surprised. about that given what i have seen when i have looked in topshop before.. )

However it is to big on me! hopefully the 12 will be better (perhaps i should have gone for the 10 .. but i sized up because id heard that the last collection came up small.. im also hoping the 12 jacket will be ok.. maybe it will come today!

when the others arrive ill then have the moral dilemma of whether to send back the ones i dont want or ebay..

ujjayi Grin we aim to please! Did you get the smock dress? is it nice?

I agree about the prevelance of cheap fabrics and high prices.. Mint velvet (although I like their stuff )can be one of the worse
