Your best 'blackhead clearing' remedy please...

Hi all,

I've always had some blackheads on and around my nose, but recently I've been getting them on my cheeks (just below the cheekbones) ... Anything I can do to get rid of these and stop them from coming back? I have been picking them which are leaving horrible blemishes :(

I have normal combination skin... With an oily T zone and (I think) normal cheeks...

TIA :)

Queen Helene Mint Julep face masque. Available online on amazon or in afro caribbean shops. I find it great, clears all the rubbish out of my skin and leaves me feeling fresh and clean. I got a huge pot of it for £3.50 in my local afro caribbean beauty shop

I've been told that asprin face masks are good as well but I haven't tried that because I'm allergic to asprin

MD formulations glycolic cleanser. You only need a bit, it's apply to dry skin, lather up and rinse, I let it sit for a minute or so

Paula's Choice 2% BHA lotion. I've had a nose full of blackheads for 20 years and then in a week they were gone!

Anything leave on with salicylic acid in it will do (I now realise far far too late). It dissolves into the pores and really cleans them out.

KosherBacon · 28/04/2014 19:37

Are you sure they are blackheads? Could they be sebaceous filaments?

Soap and Glory Fab Pore.

Ds uses a Neutrogena face wash just around his nose and it works well.

Can't beat a hot flannel and a gentle squeeze though imo Grin

I've had huge success with a magnifying mirror and extraction using the ends of two matchsticks. (The proper extractors don't work for me and the matchsticks are disposeable and don't leave harsh marks). I then apply anti bacterial hand gel, the type that you wash your hands and it doesn't need water. After a few minutes I moisturise.

This has been so sucessful for me that I rarely have to perform an extraction and my skin is looking great.

Seconding Queen Helene mask. Also hot cloth cleansing with jojoba oil - it's chemically v similar to human sebum so tricks the skin into producing less, and clears out pores.

Kosher thank you! I have just realised that sebacious filaments is what I've got. They mean my foundation always ends up looking weird and patchy around my nose after a little while. Anyone know how to clear them? (Sorry for the thread hijack OP)

revolutionarytoad · 29/04/2014 15:14

The neutrogena scrub for blackheads is incredible stuff. Works well on other spots too, my skin is never so clear as when I'm using it and it's usually unresponsible to most stuff. You have to be disciplined about it though.

revolutionarytoad · 29/04/2014 15:16

oops, unresponsive!

mumtosp · 29/04/2014 17:01

Thanks for all your responses... Not sure which product to try first Confused

Kosher thanks for the link ... I think this is what I have on my nose, but the new ones on my cheeks are definitely black heads...
