if you have an 18 year old DD would she like these?

Am panic buying a gift for a close friends daughters 18th. I have no idea what she likes these days - but I want to buy her something special.
I am thinking jewellery - ideally classic enough to stand the test of time but youthful enough to appeal to her now.
they are quite well off and she is uber cool and stylish

what sort of things would your DDs like?
my budget is about £100.

I love this -

Help my friend always gets such lovely things for my DD but I am out of my depth on this!

I have the bumble bee necklace and it is fricking irritating as it gets stuck on everything!!
I actually like the necklace with the name on it best.

BackforGood · 28/04/2014 11:43

It's very much down to personal taste though - my dd liking it or not isn't relevant if your friend doesn't like it.
Would it not be possible to take her to choose something herself?

As my nieces turned 18, we provided the money for a trip to the Jewellery Quarter, so they could get something they would love.

I personally don't really like the bumble bee nor the bracelet - different 18 yr olds might love them, others might not be keen though.

WheresRyder · 28/04/2014 11:48

I like them all. I think the name necklace or the bracelet would be better received by an 18yr old though.

My ds1 and his friends have been clubbing together and buying these for female friends that have turned 18 and they have gone down very well and I see the 3 that have them wearing them daily. Tiffany there are several different locket designs so each has a different one.

DesperateHousewife21 · 28/04/2014 11:51

Im (only just turned Grin ) 24 and I like the bracelet the most. Its quite bling but thats what I like about it.

If you have a John Lewis near you they sell some lovely bracelets/ necklaces. Even a brooch they're quite 'in' these days.

CabinetSauvinyoni · 28/04/2014 12:30

I'm with DesperateHousewife on this one - I'm 23 and much prefer the bracelet.

Personally I wouldn't wear a necklace with my name on it, but I think it's a bit of a marmite issue as I know a few people that love them Grin

I do like the bumblebee necklace though and have something similar, but as dexter says it can be really bloody irritating when it gets stuck on clothes which means I don't wear it much anymore.

AnyFucker · 28/04/2014 12:32

The bracelet

I like the bracelet too. The bee - you either love it or hate it but the bracelet is pretty and classic.

WaitMonkey · 28/04/2014 12:41

I actually like the bracelet best. Any of them would make a lovely gift. Smile

Primrose123 · 28/04/2014 12:43

My 17 year old DD would love the bracelet but not the necklaces. It's such a lot of money to spend if you don't know if she'll like it! Could you take her and let her choose something?

My DD would also love something from Tiffany's (I have no idea of prices!) but that is because we don't tend to buy very expensive jewellery, and she is impressed by famous names!

Rafaella · 28/04/2014 12:45

This website has lovely things for 18 year olds and not too expensive - they have 15% off too.

hellsbells99 · 28/04/2014 12:47

My 17 year old DD loves Links of London, Pandora and CloBo - she would love a Tiffany bracelet!

hellsbells99 · 28/04/2014 12:48
  • sorry that was supposed to be ChloBo
Liveinthepresent · 28/04/2014 14:10

thanks so much for all the replies.
i may go for the bracelet - with gift receipt if i don't find anything that feels spot on.
don't have the kind of relationship to take her shopping but will make sure its something readily swappable as would hate idea of it not being worn.
Agree about both the bee and name necklaces being a bit marmite so maybe too risky. I have always wanted the bumblebee myself but i think you lot have put me off now!

agree with all the Tiffany, Links, Pandora types suggestions but I think I need to go at least a little off the beaten track as she will definitely already have some of those types already. (her mother wears a Cartier watch and a diamond the size of my fingernails.. and I am not in this league!)

A friend mentioned this website too.
www.tinalilienthal.com/shop

i quite like the star bracelet.

Also like lots on Follie Folli - is this quite a young brand would you say?

am enjoying this can you tell?! such a fun thing to be shopping for.

ajandjjmum · 28/04/2014 14:19

She'll love Tiffany even if you just get her an empty box! Grin - actually their prices aren't all too high.

VanGogh · 28/04/2014 14:39

Sorry, I don't like any of them OP but then I'm more towards 30 than 18!!!

My grandmother had a hedgehog necklace with the same spiky back as the bee and it caught on EVERYTHING!
Thanks for the Tiffany idea whoever mentioned it earlier... I've just had a glorious time lusting over jewellery! For a "classic" piece with a modern feel I love this or this or even the classic floating heart

Whatever you decide to go for OP. I hope she loves it Smile

Liveinthepresent · 28/04/2014 15:29

Thanks van Gogh - don't worry I am older than you and have quite classic taste Too - am even a proud owner of a floating Tiffany heart !
It's so individual with jewellery I just have to hope she will approve.

CatsCantTwerk · 22/05/2014 22:50

Has anyone else had Annie Haak stalking them all over the internet after clicking the link? It is driving me mad!

Justinepants · 23/05/2014 11:11

I bought someone an necklace from www.millymoore.co.uk for her 18th. I reckoned if I liked it and would wear it and I thought she would like and wear it, it would have some longevity. As it turned out, she loved it and has hardly taken it off. Smile
