Ok I'm a pushed for time Mum and haven't got the minutes hours required to read-up and discover what's hot and what's not, but still like being semi-fashionable or at least aware of why I'm not!

I'm looking for either a v quick article somewhere or help from other M'Netters...

So drain pipe jeans and ...

Tartan apparently! (yuck)

Cratchit · 25/08/2006 09:09

Oh god really? it's all too much there's so much at the moment that I remember the first time round, well from the 80s anyway, I guess tartan was around a tad before that! All this means I'm getting old doesn't it. Think I better invest in a nice nylon skirt and slippers and be done with it.

I bought 'Instyle' magazine the other week. That was really helpful in giving a run down on what people on the outside world are wearing.

QueenPeaHead · 25/08/2006 09:17

black. grey. high waisted trousers. flat shoes and boots. miniskirts. basically anything that you wore circa 1986. no more flounces and hippyish crap, all much sharper now.

oh, and footless tights (eugh!)

QueenPeaHead · 25/08/2006 09:18

ps this weeks grazia (with kate moss not marrying pete doherty on the cover) has a pretty good rundown over about 8-10 pages...

MrsBadger · 25/08/2006 09:32

Just get a really sharp 1960s-ish wool coat (Topshop have some excellent ones) and wear it over flat boots and black or grey trousers - nod to the whole retro thing but no need for tartan, footless tights, miniskirts etc.

CheesyFeet · 25/08/2006 09:44

I thought drain pipe jeans were out (thank god) and boyfriend jeans were in ??????

tartan dress
I quite like the idea of tartan, in small doses. So long as you avoid the red and green Christmas tree look.

layla · 25/08/2006 18:58

Hmm,think victoriana type tops are still in.Tartan yeuck.Skinny jeans no.Where can I get some nice wide jeans please.
Hate fashion magazines, horrible flat pumps in them in yellow!I have my own style,if I like it I buy it.No body wants to see my big bum in skinny jeans anyway.Skirts are deffinately in.I'm too old for this fashion thing but I can still wear a victoriana top I reckon.Especially as the style is over 100 years old.

Lilliput · 25/08/2006 19:29

I don't think it's possible to get away with tartan living in Scotland, it might look like you'd bought it from the local woollen mill were old ladies in beige shop!

Lilliput · 25/08/2006 19:29

I do like the monsoon dress though

Cratchit · 25/08/2006 20:09

Lol to both the L's.

I heard a horrid rumour that mustard as a colour was in (I hesitate to say again as I'm sure I'd remember if it had been "in" before now) - needless to say, I'll be avoiding that colour!

Tutter · 25/08/2006 20:21

christ it is cadbury. heaps of vile mustard and purple items abound this season. went shopping last week to treat myself to a couple of bits and came back empty handed. not good.

Cratchit · 25/08/2006 20:23

Umm, my lardy arse in mustard drainpipes...
