how do i set velcro curlers in my hair????

i have sholder lenth hair with layers, have 8 of the biggest velcro rollers, should the hair be wet, nearly dry, or dry, can i set them on dry if i dont wash it, how long for etc etcetc

want to experiemtn for party on saturdya

either
put rollers in totally wet hair and wait till dry (ie all day about 8 hrs)
or
wait till hair is nearly dry
spray sections with mousse or styling gel spray or similar
put rollers in
leave till absolutely dry (can hasten with hairdryer)
unroll.

If you do it without washing hair the spray stuff I use means you have to dampen hair first. The mistake I always make is putting too much hair round each roller so it neither dries nor takes on a good curl - you may need more than 8.
