Can a short fat apple with stump legs wear straight jeans with wedges?

I am really stuck for trouser/jeans for a function. Am sick of the aul boot cut and small heel. Would love something different!

What sort of function? I would give straight jeans or chinos a try, they are flattering for most leg shapes.
