What's your style & beauty "duh!" moment?

Everywhere I have lived, I've always been cold in the winter. I hate being cold!

It's finally clicked that LAYERS keep you warm. It's only taken me 3 and a half decades to figure this out. I am cold because I wear thin summer clothing with a jacket on top... Not going to cut it!!

I spent ages on pinterest and polyvore looking at how to layer, for some reason I just couldn't grasp it properly until I'd seen loads of examples. But I am proud to announce that I NOW GET IT and all the lovely basic long sleeve tshirts and loose fitting tops I ordered online arrived this afternoon! Several jumpers are on the way too!

This winter I will be warm for the fist time ever. And I will look good as well!!

i think there is a BIG moment when you realise other people dont look at the size labels in your clothes.
So if a 14 looks better then buy a bloody 14!

Mine was realising that when it comes to make-up, less looks better. In my twenties I used to wear foundation, powder, eye shadow, liner and mascara and lip pencil and lipstick. I must have looked so overdone. Now, in my forties it's just foundation mascara and lip gloss. Too much make- up does not suit anyone.

"Too much" doesn't, you're right, but some people look great with a full face (admittedly not me).

That's true, I think 'too much' is when you notice the make-up before the face.

o true Lego! And clothes that fit well look a million dollars I think no matter the size of the person.

Mine was when I saw myself in a photo and realised I look like crap in black.

Understanding my body shape and realising that some retailers won't ever cut clothes that fit me so not bothering with them.

Finding tights I can wear after a mn recommendation (Falke cotton touch). Completely changed my winter wardrobe.

Spending slightly more time.......less of a half arsed job

Works for everything:
more than 2 minutes shaving means you won't cultivate knee pit or toe gardens
More than 3 minutes: applying make up means it may look half way decent and last
2 minutes Taking make up off helps my skin not look terrible
2 minutes of pelvic floor exercises 3 times a day saves money on tena pads.....always feel more stylish and beautiful without those!
30 seconds of Washing my skanky feet after work means my OH is more likely to give them a rub

Yep a line/full/maxis look terrible on me.
Pencils/minis look much better depending on how much cake I've eaten.

That you have to DO your hair for it to be done. You can't just dry it and brush it and hope for tge best (well, you can of course, but it'll look exactly like that's what you did).

That my natural hair colour actually suits me a million times better than bleach blonde! I now enhance my medium Brown

Polo necks make my face look fat (I thought I was rocking the Sharon Stone at the Oscars in a Gap top...)

1. Accessories are everything....a scarf can make the outfit.

1. Round neck tshirts are a no no as are capped sleeves esp for those with big norks.

1. Mascara is important.

1. Comfy shoes are a must.

1. Shellac nails help them to grow.

That I actually look good in colour - bright cobalt blue, and pastelly pinks - NOT JUST BLACK!

I wear a lot of grey, I thought black was too draining . After seeing photos I realise grey makes me look like I've just been dug up. Also I thought I suited blonde hair until I saw photos, going back to brown tomorrow.

I don't need to keep everything for best!

That the time will come for everyone when they realise that they will prioritise comfort over glamour. This moment came for me, in relation to shoes, in my early 20s. My feet have never been uncomfortable since.

I look so much better in proper pigmented lipsticks than I ever did in a sweep of lipgloss.

Detail around the neckline suits me whether that is a collar or a scarf or whatever.

I am best off buying complete outfits, or knowing that I already have a complete outfit to go with a separate I am thinking of buying. Otherwise i end up with lots of clothes but nothing to wear!

That blonde doesn't actually suit that many people, especially me, after 20 years of bright blonde highlights. I've now gone much darker with just a few highlights and it looks miles better.

That I don't want to wear any sort of control underwear anymore (apart from control tights which I find strangely comfy) - I'm just going to to buy things that fit, or not worry that everything isn't smooth and flat.

That I should always wear bright lipsticks. Bright pink, berry and red have become my signature look.

That I should have a fringe. Although doesn't work currently in the tropics.

That I should always fill my eyebrows in - Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Grey is perfect for my dark, dark eyebrows.

That concealer is amazing, God-like product and means that I don't need to slather on the foundation.

That I need to moisturiser - Grandma taught me that one at 11 and she had fabulous skin.

That I'm pretty lucky to find out what suits me and learning to be comfortable in my skin in my mid 20s.

singaporeswing I agree on eyebrows. They make a huge difference to my face, which needs make up or it doesn't exist. Every day is like drawing on my features!

I still can't break the keeping things for best habit.

I'm a SAHM as is the really stylish School gate Mum. Why do I feel daft doing the school run in a nice coat and she doesn't. (No she isn't especially well off)

That most high street clothing is not suitable for me. It is either the wrong color or the wrong shape or I don't like it. I must trawl for hours to find one good item.

This is normal. My shopping improved when I accepted it.

Glossy mags convinced me that my supposedly "ideal" body shape should be easy to dress (taller than average, hour glass, flat belly, big norks, long legs, size 10-12). Yes, I I'd look good in everything. Bollocks. I'd go shopping and come home crying because so much made me look like a sack of potatoes or that troll princess from Shrek.

Good skin comes from within.

Sod the creams: drink water, sleep, eat right, exercise.

A horrible horrible truth . I love bacon sarnies and late night wine drinking.
