autumn parkas

anyone found a nice cheapish autumn parka anywhere - according to Grazia (i am such a fashion slave) they are the must have item this winter. but 900 pounds from chloe and 600 from Sportmax is out of my budget somewhat. anyone done some shopping around?

'must have'? pshaw. I think the 1960s-inspired wool coats are nicer, smarter and more versatile for this winter - Topshop have some corkers.

Parka-wise, this and this are the best I've seen, but I think the whole parka look has to be done v carefully so it doesn't look like a) army surplus (where Next falls down) b) 1980s skiwear or c) those cropped jackets with the furry hoods the teenagers at the bus stop wear.
The two Rocawear parkas here and here are, in my opinion, erring towards the bus-stop end of the spectrum. However, if you've got the cash, the Morgan leather jacket looks luxurious enough to chime with the glamourous catwalk parkas but not so 'Fall 2006' that it'll go out of date.

The first Rocowear one looks like severe underarm hair is poking out!!

Sorry, didn't mean to kill your thread stone dead Rainbowbear

Mrs Badger, I love your links. RainbowBear, Next has red cropped jacket with furry hood which does look a bit bus-stoppy but is better than the sack of potatoes look. I got a green parka last year and I hate it with a vengeance but I wear it all the time.

WelshBoris · 23/08/2006 21:42

Bought mine from French Connection this week

the pack parka on the website

thank you all!

Hmmm, not sure about any of those tbh. I like a longer one, not a 'bomber jacket' style and I'd like khaki. One of the mums at school had a lovely one last winter - will have to ask her where she got it.

JackieNo · 30/08/2006 11:54

How about going for the army surplus ones?.

Gobbledigook · 30/08/2006 11:56

yikes!

anotehr friend had a lovely brown one last year, I'm sure it was by North Face and not at all cheap but it was lovely. Can't find it on line though

JackieNo · 30/08/2006 11:59

How about this sort of thing?

JackieNo · 30/08/2006 12:00

Or another one here ?

Gobbledigook · 30/08/2006 12:02

Hmmmm.

Prefer this one

Gobbledigook · 30/08/2006 12:04

That LX one looks OK actually

JackieNo · 30/08/2006 12:04

That's nice, but expensive. Do a search at La Redoute - they seem to have various ones, but you need MrsBadger to come along to link to them, I can't do it.

MrsBadger · 30/08/2006 12:33

ooh, some definite possibles in La Redoute if you search Parka in FEMME - this was the first to catch my eye, and this is army surplus with a furry collar - quite cool if you can pull it off.

(NB Jackie if you click on the Image Zoom it takes you to a page you can do a link from)

JackieNo · 30/08/2006 12:46

Thank you MrsBadger. That second one was the one I saw and thought was quite cool too.

ocd · 01/09/2006 17:40

i ahve one fom last year! hooray!

Kelly1978 · 01/09/2006 17:42

I think the la redoute ones are vile tbh! Very old fashioned looking, not nice at all. I also have one from last year though! Mine is an ecru ted baker one with lovely fury trimmed hood but it is quite long so it won't be coming out for a while yet.

ocd · 01/09/2006 17:43

i ahet teh puffa coats
dead chavvy

Gobbledigook · 03/09/2006 09:50

Argh, but all I have is a puffa jacket from about 4 years ago (well have leather jacket, velvet jacket etc but they are for 'going out') so neeeeeed a nice coat (or two) for the winter. I want a wool smartish one and a parka type one - one for each of my general styles

Smurfgirl · 03/09/2006 12:59

Ohh I just ordered that navy one from lx direct.

I bought a sort of mid length parka thing yesterday from Asda (only £30), no fur around the hood but v.nice in a sort of granny way.
