Curly hair - talk to me like I am stupid

My DD is 5 yrs old and has very curly hair (mixed race, but it isnt afro texture, or those arcehtypal mixed race corkscrew curls...its thick and. Springy/curly when dry, fine and wavy when wet or has any product in it).

I have tried various products and regimes over the years to keep it healthy and in good condition, but interested to know what others with curly girls (or who are curly haired themselves do).

So far have tried 'no-poo' (doesnt work as she needs some product in her hair to style it, which builds up and needs to be washed out once every 7-14 days at least), have tried many Afro hair products (too greasy, heavy, harsh), European hair products just dry it out. tried Mixed Chicks but it was pricey and was underwhelmed. Currently moisturising it when wet and combed out with coconut oil and then massaging in a cheapo conditioner made for Afro hair, which is fine for styling, but weighs her hair down when left loose.

Ideas?

I will crack this!

I have corkscrew curly hair but fine and have just started using sulphate free products. I bought the Deva Curl stuff from amazon and it's really good so far, they do a gel for styling which seems to hold it pretty well.
