New to make-up - what do I need to know?

Ok, so I'm in my 30's but have never really worn much make-up. My mum doesn't (never has) worn any and the rest of the family are all male so I've never really had anyone tell me what I should be wearing and how etc. so have never bothered.

However, I guess I'm wanting to 'glamourise' myself a little bit - make an effort, feel better about myself, look & feel more confident etc. I know this won't all come down to make-up but I think it might help esp. as my skin is quite fair and prone to spots / blemishes / rosy cheeks which I am conscious of.

So what do I need to know please ladies??

Treat me as a complete beginner - let me know what your routine is / what mine should be, what I need to buy, recommend brands, etc.
I don't want to look like a clown (!) / too made up so nothing too drastic - plus it has to be easy & quick to apply as I have 2 kids!!

Thanks!!

I could have wrote this at the beginning of year,

I didn't want to wear foundation as it always feels heavy on my face and tbh not got time in the morning to apply

So my starter set was mineral makeup (from amazon) a concealer, and with the mineral makeup you get a mascara(best mascara I've ever used) and lip gloss as that's enough makeup for me

The mineral makeup is so quick to use and very very easy to apply (I just watched you tube video to apply mineral foundation)

Then I bought a cheaper version of bare mineral from amazon and that's fine as well
