Best skinny jeans for apples

Ok super shoppers of mumsnet your wisdom is much welcomed.

I am on the lookout for some skinny jeans that will fit my shape. I'm around a 10 in the waist and 8 in the hips with skinny legs, so a little apple but apple all the same.

All the jeans I try seem to either give me a muffin top or seem baggy round the bum and go really baggy in the legs after a few washes. Where can I find the holy grail of skinny jeans that don't go baggy?

I have been considering mens skinnys, as the standard fit pair I 'up cycled' from DS fit better around the bum than any woman's jeans I've tried, but would mens skinnys be tight enough in the leg?

All advice great fully received.

Oasis jade.

stella69x · 11/04/2014 21:22

Thanks, how are they size wise, standard to waist or size up or down? Live semi rural so may have to rely on internet shopping.

You don't want "Skinny" jeans. You want boot leg jeans, or straight jeans, but the effect is when someone look at you, it makes you look slim and proportional.

Try and find the bootleg ones from New Look. Try them on and see what you think. Basically you want the effect to be that these little bit of flare at the bottom of the jeans to offset the little bit of broadness in your shoulders. If you are a true apple like me, then you may have a bit of a broad shoulder. When someone look at you from a distance and see your whole silhouette, it looks quite proportional.

I'm a size 10-12 and normally buy a size 10 in jeans as tend to grow over time.

The 10 did fit me but were so tight they gave me a bit of a parsnip leg effect, so I went with the 12 in the end. They still fit though have bagged a bit at the waist - but the waist is not too low so it doesn't really matter.

I am chunky of thigh, though, with slim hips. If you are slim in the leg and hips then go for the smaller size I would say.

Why can't apples wear skinnies? Confused

Boot cuts still look so dated.

Op - if you've got the cash, current Elliot or AG. If not, I find the topshop motos are pretty good too.

They really are the best and most comfortable skinnys I've ever had, and I'm appley as you like and get a muffin top in everything but these.

They are high enough to keep all muffinage in, without being overbearingly high waisted.

chicaguapa · 11/04/2014 21:28

Yy to Oasis's Jade. They're straight leg but fit like skinnies.

I'm a 12/14 and I wear a 14. I'm 5'4" and they're long on me, but they're ok iyswim?

wheretheairisrarefied · 11/04/2014 21:29

Hmm, there may be different types of Oasis Jade then, the ones I'm referring to are the super skinny ones.

Maisie0 · 11/04/2014 21:30

Oh, just to add. The New Look ones are not proper tough denims, but they are knitted cotton, with some elasticity in it and then with a dye. So it stretches that little bit and look a bit more skinny as well. That is why I find it works so well and doesn't give me that muffin top look either. Stretchy cotton is the way to go.

wheretheairisrarefied · 11/04/2014 21:32

Knitted cotton bootleg jeans sound a bit gopping to me, sorry maisie.

Maisie0 · 11/04/2014 21:33

The names can be different in different shops. And you really need to check the cutting though. Cos you will see the effect. When you wear it, you know if it looks a bit tighter or not. Because I also have that bit of bigger thighs, the jeans look quite slim when I wear it. I have tried the skinny ones before and I cannot breathe because the cutting in the top bit is too tight. I did have a pair of A&F as well, but you do have to tried different ones and check how they cut the top bit I suppose.

stella69x · 11/04/2014 21:37

I think I'm after proper denim opposed to knitted cotton/ Lycra mix as I find the latter stretch and bag too much, or that could be because I buy cheap? Blush

That's because I mean Oasis's CHERRY. Blush

They're not super skinnies but are narrow around the ankles. I am apple-shaped and that's what my personal shopper at Debenhams always recommends for me.

chicaguapa · 11/04/2014 21:40

I think the personal shopper would have sounded less poncey. Blush

CeeceeBloomingdale · 11/04/2014 21:42

Skinnies fit like straight leg jeans on me as I buy to fit my waist. I need super skinnies to get a skinnier but not skin tight look. Debenhams red herring range do a super skinny which is perfect on me.

stella69x · 11/04/2014 21:45

Just been looking on the oasis website and see the jade jeans come in both mid rise and high waist, any recommendations?

I've recent bought some fantastic pepe jeans. After years of buying either supermarket or topshop jeans I braved a visit to a proper jeans shop - and it was great . They are much more flattering than my other ones and don t stretch after 2 hours .

wheretheairisrarefied · 11/04/2014 21:49

Mine are mid rise and hold it all in. I don't personally find high waist jeans that comfortable but if you do I'd imagine they'd be ok.

Twinklestein · 11/04/2014 21:54

You need high rise skinnies with a lot of stretch in them.

If you don't want to pay £££, see if you can pick up some J Brand in the sale or on ebay.

Alternatively google Levi's 'hi rise skinnies'.

The idea that bootlegs are passé is behind the times: skinnies are now just a staple, there are a lot of new skinny-to-the-knee bootleg and flared jeans around at the mo.
