Piece of lace for wedding- what to use it for?

A friend of mine is a designer and has bought me a beautiful, very detailed and very precious piece of beaded lace after I recently got engaged. She said she will make something with it but I don't know what; it's not a very big piece, maybe about a metre squared.

I haven't got dress or anything yet as it's not until nov next year, so I don't have any kinds of ideas.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Garter?

Eminybob · 10/04/2014 18:17

How about a shawl or shrug to go over a plain dress?

UncrushedParsley · 10/04/2014 18:17

Maybe a wedding bag?

HappyHippyChick · 10/04/2014 18:17

Oh and congratulations!

Hair decoration
Parasol
Garter

No advice, but what a lovely gift. Could it maybe be a belt or a feature of the bodice of your dress somehow.

eurochick · 10/04/2014 18:22

Veil?

thesaurusgirl · 10/04/2014 18:25

The bodice of your dress. If you have a separate bodice and skirt, you'll be able to wear it afterwards.

A friend of mine was married in a Vera Wang 'dress' that was a lace bodice and satin skirt. Amazing.

GlaikitFizzog · 10/04/2014 18:30

What does your friend make? Just in case we suggest something she can make!

My first thoughts were a clutch bag and gloves, or a hair accessory and cuff.

Have a look on Pinterest you might get more ideas there.

Thank you for all these amazing ideas! Sash would work or bodice/belt. I was thinking of getting a dress designed by her and then made by someone else as she doesn't have the time to sew me a dress, so I could ask her to incorporate it. I hadn't thought of any of these ideas at all I just keep getting it out and looking at it!
Thank you for the congratulations

As the "inside" of a kick pleat or godet pleat?

Snargaluff · 10/04/2014 18:48

I had to google that but that's a great idea bikerunski. I would like to have quite a plain dress ideally, so lace in the pleats would be lovely.

She makes womenswear glaikitfizzog! She works for a high- end designer so she's always extremely busy, very long hours and lots of runway shows, which is why I didn't want to give her loads to do.

I think using part of it as a kick pleat, or a panel on your bodice would be lovely, then you'd have enough for a small bag as well.

Laska42 · 10/04/2014 19:00

How about her making a slip top like this and you wearing it over a silk slip dress like this? (or one with spaghetti straps)

Forgettable · 10/04/2014 19:07

My mate had a mantilla not a veil

even shorter than this one

Love the kick pleat idea though
