Am I the only one who doesn't get the fuss over Nancy?

The boden "Nancy" dress seems to be everywhere I look, granted I may currently have too much free time on my hands as on maternity leave but I seem to get a nearly daily email from boden about it, it's been featured on blogs I look at too. All in that Italian Rivera print or whatever.

Granted it seems inoffensive enough I suppose (although a bit expensive for what it is IMO) but why are boden pushing it so much?
Plus I imagine (well to me anyway) it is instantly recognisable as a boden dress.
I never really like my clothes to be obviously from anywhere.
Maybe it's just me.

Apologies for the rant.
A weight has been lifted etc

funny, i have that dress on my wish list, in the amalfi print. I like the retro vibe of it, wouldn't get it in another colourway though. I only own about 5 bits of boden, 2 shorts, 3 t-shirts, all plain that could have been bought anywhere.

It looks like a really simple summer dress pattern. No way would I pay £80!

Redcoats · 10/04/2014 16:30

the gathered waist would highlight my belly, so not for me. Even the model in video looks a bit frumpy in it.

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 10/04/2014 16:32

I've never heard of it.

Will look and report back with my scintillating opinion, forthwith.

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 10/04/2014 16:34

I agree. Frumpy shape

AlpacaYourThings · 10/04/2014 16:34

It's very 'Primark'

HerRoyalNotness · 10/04/2014 16:35

See I think the gathers work for me, as i'm different size top/bottom. So if I went for a 12, top would be too big. But I'd be able get my top size 10 and then would fit over my hips/rear. It's $148+tax in US, so I'd get in the sale as would only wear as a summer throw on/holiday dress most likely.

OhNoYouExpedidnt · 10/04/2014 16:51

I do actually have a dress that is about 5 years old from Primark which looks like this!

jamaisjedors · 10/04/2014 16:56

Why do they cut all their dresses so high?

I have given up ordering dresses from there because they are always cut like that which seems to emphasise the tummy (and if I'm honest I don't even really have a tummy).

Redcoats · 10/04/2014 17:31

The problem with those summery prints is that you can only wear them for two days a year.

I have something similar from Joules, its lovely but it looks out of place unless its scorching hot. People at work say 'oh it must be hot Red is wearing her summer dress'. And I've only been there 2 years. perhaps I need some new clothes

netty36 · 10/04/2014 18:21

When I read the online reviews on the Boden site they weren't that great.
I think by giving a dress a name it becomes bigger than it is if that makes sense. Boden do that with all their clothes.
My friend ordered it, we tried it in, we laughed, we sent it back.... Looked awful. Frumpy and garish in that print. It was a cold, grey day though so possibly didn't help.

impty · 10/04/2014 18:36

Now that's exactly what I imagine when I read Boden dress. Not for me.

dannydyerismydad · 10/04/2014 18:40

It's OK. I like the sunflower print, but I wouldn't pay £89 for OK. For that money I'd rather something a lot more special.

£35 would be my limit for a dress like that.

capet · 10/04/2014 19:37

When I saw it first I thought oh that would be nice for holidays, then I saw the price and I agree that I would only pay about thirty quid for a sundress.
But then it has popped up everywhere since and they seem to be really pushing it so now I'm a bit sick of looking at it.
And yes I imagine you could only wear it in great weather.

I ordered it in the yellow colour and really liked it. However, I couldn't pay that much for a simple cotton sun dress!

tigerdriverII · 10/04/2014 21:23

'Inspired by a laundry bag'? It certainly looks like one.

capet · 10/04/2014 21:45

Yes thought the description was bit odd
