i am naturally very dark brown but it just looks cold and doesnt suit me, i really enjoy being blonde, however ive just had it done and hairdresser says its getting very dry, and could do with a rest. Ive been blonde for a good few years now with highlights every 6 to 8 weeks.

on both the pics of my hair here its been curled - its naturally poker straight.

so.
im thinking of going from blonde to brown with honey highlights....a la this pic of angelina jolie.....

do you think it would suit or might i regret it? once i go dark it will take bleach to go blonde again - my hair does not lift with anything but bleach.

but it really could do with a rest from bleach to get the condition back.

ta....

I think it will really suit you. Your current blond is quite cool toned and I think the warmth will look fab.

BOFtastic · 07/04/2014 23:29

Yy, it will look great.

in the past if ive gone dark ive regretted it, but it really does need a break from the bleach.
plus i will let my super talented hairdresser sort out the colour - and she is talking about a warm brown with honey highlights.

its just temporary - i do love being blonde, but it needs a rest.

You'll be hooked.

If you go darker and then put honey lights in, how will that improve the condition? It its getting dry then intensive conditioning might help or cutting some off will definitely help. The damage is done so its not going to repair itself with a dark dye and then when you do decide to go blond again it will be twice as bad when you need to re bleach all of it to go blond.

flux500 · 09/04/2014 10:17

Agree with MillyJones.

Adding colour doesn't improve condition although your hair will appear shinier as darker hair reflects and lighter hair absorbs.

After you've deposited dark colour over blonde you will have to work harder to lift it again and this will end up more damaging.

Only way is to really grow it out and let new hair grow but that's a lengthy process! I would change to a tint highlight instead of a bleach one and there's a conditioner called perseverance or something that's supposed to be a body builder for hair. Can't find the exact thing to link to. Feel keep looking :)

Love the darker colour and the highlights will break it up a bit.

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/04/2014 21:14

no i know a dye wont improve condition but dye is not bleach - if i keep bleaching it its going to drop out....its breaking off in places. so a solid colour would give it a rest from the bleach.
the roots wouldnt need touching up as often - my hair is a very dark brown so within 6 weeks it needs roots sorting.

bleach is more damaging than dye.

i will just have a few honey highlights in it - the bleach wont need to be left in as long.
my hair does not lift with anything but bleach - but i wouldnt be lifting it if it were brown.

i went a solid brown a few years ago and hated it. i felt dull as ditchwater. but it does need a rest from the bleach. its bleach thats harming it - not an ammonia free dye!

my hair will not lighten with anything other than bleach. a high lift tint does not even touch it.

i would leave it brown for a while - as in - a few years. to give it a good rest before lifting it again.
or i might love the darker colour and not want to go blonde again....who knows!

Well if you leave the dark in a few years then that should be enough time for you to have trimmed all the old bleach off. But, if you decide after a week or two that you don't like being dark you will have to put more bleach in all over your hair wont you? That will then be bleaching over bleach and will make it even worse.

You shouldn't need to be bleaching over bleached hair anyway as it is now. You should just be bleaching the new roots .So that shouldn't affect the rest of your hair. If you dye your hair dark it will need a lot of dying as it will fade within a week or two as bleached hair doesn't take to keeping dye on it very well.

If I were you I would start using a demi-permanant which will tone down the blonde, give you some caramel/honey lights and most importantly, give your hair a rest.

Try casting in a honey blonde shade.
